Volunteer online with Communication and Graphic design for ActionAid Kenya
ActionAid International Kenya is looking for an experienced volunteer who will provide online support to their work on communications and graphic design. The volunteer will directly report to the communications coordinator. They will assist on tasks such as the development and design of graphics, artwork, logos, and a variety of other creative tasks as assigned and expected to develop simple, readable, understandable, high-quality documents and clearly detailed infographics.
The volunteer position is 6 months.
EU Aid Volunteers
The EU Aid Volunteers initiative provides volunteering opportunities to support communities in disaster-affected countries outside the EU in better preparing for crisis and responding when disaster strikes. As well as volunteering in the countries affected by disaster through full-time deployment, online volunteering is another way to get involved.

We commit to working with Women, Children and Youth to claim and realize their constitutional rights through working within three main pillars; empowerment, solidarity and campaigning.
Online volunteer tasks
Required competencies
As this volunteer is placed under the EU AID Volunteer Initiative the volunteer must be a citizen of the EU or a third country national who is a long-term resident in an EU Member State and must have a minimum age of 18 years.
Conditions of service
The volunteer is expected to work 11-20 hours per week.
Online volunteering is a way of giving your time by completing a volunteering task through the internet at home, work or university. As online volunteering is done without leaving home, financial support is not provided. Online volunteers complement the EU Aid Volunteers initiative by doing practical tasks – in areas like research, technology, translation or design – that support EU Aid Volunteers projects on the ground to reach more people and make their work more effective. For each online assignment successfully completed, online volunteers receive a certificate of completion.

Online volunteer tasks
- Design digital advocacy and campaign content. Prepare images to coincide with social and blog posts. Continuous updating of all website banners, images etc.
- Create & proof all brand items for correctness before production i.e. posters, print, etc.
- Brand storytelling by editing videos to allure specific audiences
- Identify communication and information needs, priorities, and provide technical advice to communication team on appropriate communication approaches and products to best reflect key messages and target different audiences.
- The development and delivery of quality, timely and widely accessible communication and information products and services using a range of multimedia and communication platforms.
- Ensure the adequate dissemination and sharing of AAIK programme key messages, and information and knowledge products to variety of target audiences (e.g. government, national and international partners …etc.), while maintaining the required branding and visibility for the programme as per AAIK and donor rules and regulations.
- Commission, research, write, edit audience-specific communication and information products; including website materials, comment pieces, feature stories, fact sheets and brochures that communicate persuasive and evidence-based messages.
- Review the production of AAIK programme’s audio-visual communication and advocacy materials, including short documentaries/ videos that would document and capture the activities of the programmes.
- Maintain and compile AAIK library for photos and audio-visuals of the programmes’ activities that can be utilised on different occasions.
- Review final layouts and propose to the communications team alternative options that enhance better alignment of graphics and narratives.
- Confer with communications team to discuss and determine the optimal/selected layout design
Required competencies
- Good knowledge of communication and/or information management principles and concepts.
- Knowledge of multimedia to develop a range of communication and information products.
- Knowledge of social media platforms.
- Knowledge of the working practices of the national media.
- Knowledge of research methodologies and resources.
- Knowledge of methods and techniques for designing and assessing quality and efficiency of process execution.
- Good knowledge of PC software (including word processor, spreadsheet and presentation software) such as Microsoft Office.
- Fluency in English.
