The role as Senior Usability Engineer
You will be part of the team of Usability and CoCreation (U&C) in R&D, Demant. U&C is responsible for the usability design and compliance of our hearing aid products, accessories and supporting systems.

In essence, we shape, track and measure user interaction and usability throughout the development process from idea to marked launch. Doing this requires deep understanding of user needs and user experience combined with a technical and creative approach.

You will need to find solutions to design-out usability obstacles that we encounter when developing features of our hearing systems. Together with the team, you will be the frontrunner in the R&D organization of an outside-in and user-centered strategy as well as being the regulator of our usability quality of our products. Your primary mission is therefore to enable design that is technologically feasible and accurate enough for actual day-to-day use while maintaining an appropriate user experience.

Work across functions

The U&C team works across functions within R&D, QA/RA, Sales & Marketing and Product & Portfolio Management. You will therefore work closely together with a very wide range of stakeholders.

As a Senior Usability Engineer, you will be integrated into project teams with engineers of various disciplines and audiologists during concept and product development as well as providing a bridge of usability expertise and regulations across the Demant departments. Joining us, you can look forward to the following responsibilities:

  • Secure delivery of our hearing aid product solutions with the highest level of ease-of-use to the marked
  • Be the expert in user experience, including usability methodology, ergonomics, behavior and interaction design, system performance and visual design
  • Collect, interpret, and present findings and recommendations based on quantitative and qualitative research to inform decision-making during product development activities


  • Facilitate workshops, and conduct usability evaluations, i.e., plan, recruit, moderate, analyze data, write reports, present results, and give design recommendations
  • Interpret and work with international industry standards of usability and follow standard operating procedures to deliver documentation that live up to FDA and MDR requirements regarding safety and effectiveness
  • Make pre- and prototypes to simulate functionality for internal use or usability evaluations
  • Inspire hardware and software engineers, audiologist, project owners and managers at all levels

Could we be a match?

You probably hold a B.Sc. or M.Sc. in a relevant field (e.g., Engineering, Biomedical, Human Factors Engineering, Industrial Design, Design & Innovation, or other relevant disciplines) this combined with years of relevant work experience (e.g., Human Factors / Usability Engineering, Technical Writing, System Engineering, Risk Management or other medical or healthcare fields). You know how to retrieve valuable insights from users through application of usability methodology and can translate them into design requirements in the device user interface. Furthermore, you have solid experience with data documentation and reporting thorough data-collection efforts and analysis is crucial.

You can work in an agile environment and have maybe already tried to work with scrum or SAFe. Most importantly, you can thrive in a big organization and have good cross-department collaboration skills, The person we are looking for, also has a willingness to deep dive into design solution spaces and do expert analysis of new inventions this combined with good people and communication skills, including facilitating and presenting.   • An understanding of the IEC 62366 standard and ANSI/AAMI HE75 Human Factor Engineering guidelines and to some extend the ISO 14971 Risk Management standard for medical devices.
  • An ability to work diligently and structured and coordinate multiple documents and projects simultaneously.
  • Attention to detail and ability to review and edit technical documentation.
  • Hands-on usability testing experience and familiarity with technical writing of e.g., procedures, protocols, and reports.
  • An understanding of product development processes and ability to work
