Svenstrup J

“Printer’s run out of ink, MAYDAY MAYDAY”, “I spilled a cappuccino macchiato cortado on my Macbook and poured 1kg basmati rice on it because this instagram video told me it should suck out the moisture, WHY IS IT NOT WORKING?!”

Okay, maybe that was a bit exaggerated, but I’m sure you’ve heard similar things, whether it be from your parents, your parents parents or even your teacher that keeps raving about how Basic is just the best programming language that’s ever existed. It’s not the 80’s anymore Mr. Jensen, get with the times already, jeez.

Does kick-starting your career in a company with alumni from companies like Facebook, McKinsey, Uber, Google, and Amazon sound interesting? Do you want to be part of an environment where autonomy and proactiveness is celebrated, and where your drive, work ethic and motivation is rewarded beyond that of just a grade? You ever watch a Silicon Valley episode and think, wow. Richard really sucks, but I wish I understood systems like Gilfoyle.

It’s not all fun and games, though. Ever tried preparing 24 laptops at 10 PM for a round of hires starting the next morning, because DHL was delayed with their delivery? Or having to work through two weekends in London, because a vendor overpromised with a shipment? The good comes with the bad, but one thing they both have in common is the major learning experience that you’ll get. If this sounds like a solid tradeoff to you and doesn’t scare you away, then Pleo might just be the fit for you.

In this role, along with the rest of the IT Team, you’ll be supporting all information technology and computer systems at Pleo. You will be based in our Copenhagen HQ, but you will have the chance to travel in order to set up and support our satellite offices (Hello London, Stockholm, Berlin, Madrid and many more in the future). You will also help with ensuring a great remote experience for those Pleo-ers spread around the globe (think Athens, Quebec, Montreal, Cape Town, and keep thinking!).

All in all, you can expect to be dealing with a broad range of tasks. Some might require you to get your hands dirty while others could provide a chance of you to utilise your out-of-the-box thinking and come up with hack-y solutions. If one thing is for certain, is that no day in the office would be the same. You can also expect to meet with tons of new people from over forty nationalities. As our new IT apprentice brace yourself for endless love and appreciation. Finally, as we scale, learning opportunities would be ample and you'll have the flexibility to choose the areas you'd like to focus and develop. We'll do our best to support you and help you grow in the direction you wish to take.

The hard skills needed

  • Fundamental knowledge in IT Support
  • Troubleshooting on MacOS, Windows 10, iOS and Android
  • On-Offboarding of IT services
  • Collaborating on all kinds of projects across the organization
  • Producing documentation for fellow colleagues
  • Office improvements
  • Opening/setting new offices (Get to travel to all over Europe!)

You know your way around

  • Maintaining internal systems (Google Workspace, Office 365, Slack, Zoom, 1Password, Notion, the list goes on)
  • All major operating systems in use (Mac, Windows, iOS, Android)
  • IT Support, server management, basic networking
  • Best practices around Data Security

Your colleagues say you

  • Work in English with ease (it's our company language)
  • Are easy to work with
  • Follow projects through from start to finish
  • Helping others puts a smile on your face
  • Would be a person that they would actually like to have a coffee with (virtual or not)

Your mom says that you

  • Love knowing how things work
  • Took apart a computer at some point when you were a kid
  • Take on challenges
  • Always help setting-up her friends' routers
  • Love binge watching "The silicon valley"
  • Love attending LAN parties as volunteer

Show me the benefits!

  • Show me the benefits!
  • Consistent 1-on-1 feedback and responsibility adjustments. How’s a team building trip to the arcade sound?
  • Your own Pleo card (no more out-of-pocket spending)
  • Flexible working remote options for those onsite (just speak to your team)
  • (Once COVID-19 allows it again) Quarterly trips to somewhere for team camps (both company-wide ones and team-specific ones). The last one Ireland in November last year, Berlin before that including a drag queen show (we went authentic Berlin)
  • Investment in learning & developing (just check with your team for what's reasonable, we don't have set budgets)

And here are some other nice gestures that we do

  • Catered lunch in our HQ and London offices when you're here
  • Loads of weird and wonderful niche communities to join in the company (we're talking guerrilla gardening, liquids tasting, the Pleo band, learning to code initiatives, beer brewing, skiing, that type of thing)
  • Wild enthusiasm and encouragement from us if you want to host MeetUps, events, etc - we'll help (venue, food etc)

The reason most of us work at Pleo is because we want to change the workplace of today. We are motivated by companies trusting with us and giving us autonomy to work in the best way for us - and for the company. Pleo solves today's company spending problem. We empower companies with an app that links up to prepaid cards. Every person gets a card, and is trusted with spending company money. After all, if you're trusted enough to be hired, you should be trusted enough with spending money responsibly.

Being HQ'd out of Copenhagen means we're inspired by sensible things like a good work-life balance. If you don't work in one of our offices with us we'll help you get up the best remote setup possible, and will fly you in once a quarter for team camps.

Sometimes, we write about things we care about
