We are looking for an experienced lawyer with proven legal skills as well as a strong compliance experience and international mindset for a role as Legal Counsel in one of the world's largest logistics companies.

You will be joining the Third Party Management Team which is part of Maersk’s Compliance Team, and will report to the Head of Third Party Management. While your usual place of work will be Maersk's headquarter in Copenhagen, the role has a global reach and will entail close collaboration with stakeholders in the global Maersk organisation. As part of our Team, you will work closely with experienced, specialised and dynamic colleagues across Maersk and contribute to ensuring that Maersk does business with the right Third Parties and that any compliance risks are mitigated appropriately.

As Legal Counsel, you will be performing compliance due diligence (anti-corruption and sanctions) on Third Parties that Maersk wants to engage in the context of Joint Ventures, Mergers and Acquisitions (M&A), and various commercial collaborations.
This will include:
• screening using Dow Jones, World Check or similar tools as well as performing Google searches;
• scoping, ordering and reviewing enhanced due diligence reports provided by external vendors;
• preparing customized due diligence questionnaires;
• reviewing and analysing due diligence results and following up on identified compliance red flags and risks;
• preparing compliance recommendations (incl. mitigating actions) for senior management / internal stakeholders; as well as
• driving and executing various projects aimed at maintaining and further enhancing our Third Party Management processes.
The ideal candidate holds a master’s degree in Law combined with 2-5 years of hands-on experience within Legal and /or Compliance including performing compliance (anti-corruption, sanctions, or similar) due diligence on Third Parties and designing mitigating actions to address compliance risks.
You have prior experience working at a top-tier law firm or a large international company or similar organization. Compliance or other relevant professional certifications is seen as an advantage.
Furthermore you:
• Have experience with IT tools used to conduct compliance screenings (e.g., Dow Jones, World Check, etc.)
• Have knowledge of compliance frameworks related to anti-corruption and anti-bribery (as well as foreign trade controls)
• Have knowledge of legal corporate governance
• Have knowledge of legal M&A related activities
• Have excellent communication and stakeholder management skills
• Are a team player who can easily work with different stakeholders across functions and cultures
• Have an excellent command of written and spoken English. Other language skills are an advantage but not a requirement
• Are a high performer that thrives in a challenging, dynamic and often unpredictable business environment
• Are able prioritize many tasks and manage many stakeholders at the same time.
