In joining Maersk as Legal Counsel – Competition Law & Policy in our headquarters in Copenhagen, you will be joining a truly global, leading industry player which has frequent interactions with many leading competition authorities, at a time of significant change across Maersk.
You will have an opportunity to work with a highly specialised team of seven competition lawyers in a dynamic, challenging and truly international working environment.
You will be able to use and further develop your competition law expertise, when dealing with different competition law regimes across the globe, interacting with the business to provide pragmatic competition law advice and supporting the team in ensuring successful approvals of M&A transactions, positive engagement with regulators globally in relation to substantive and competition law matters and policy work, and the development and maintenance of policies and other competition law compliance initiatives .

As Legal Counsel you will be supporting the other members of the Competition Law & Policy Team in providing legal advice to the Maersk businesses, including the liner business, logistics and services, terminals and towage, to ensure compliance with global competition rules.
Your responsibilities will initially include:
• Supporting the team in providing strategic and day-to-day competition law advice and solutions on projects and initiatives in particular M&A initiatives promoted by the business to ensure any potential competition law implications are considered and accounted for in developing new strategies, policies, products
• Supporting the team in preparing and coordinating merger control filings together with external legal counsel
• Carrying out multi-jurisdictional analyses to determine where merger control filings might be required
• Cooperating with and coordinating responses to competition regulators, including in relation to merger filings
• Supporting the team with handling competition law investigations globally
• Conducting legal research
• Supporting the competition law compliance program, including the preparation of policies and guidelines, training and other compliance projects.
A person with 1-5 years of experience in the field of competition law, including merger control.
The ideal candidate will have competition law experience from an international or a leading national law firm and a good understanding of merger control processes in the context of M&A transactions.
Experience liaising with competition regulators is a plus. We will also consider candidates with a mix of Legal and Economics background.
The ideal candidate is analytical, methodical and thorough, and has an ability to keep a clear head in a busy and dynamic environment where you will be involved in a great variety of tasks.
As you will be simultaneously supporting the team in a number of complex matters, attention to detail and excellent interpersonal and communication skills are a must.
The ability to interact effectively with people across business functions and to understand business needs is essential to your success. You are self-motivated and able to work independently as well as in a team.
As work language is English, an excellent command of written and spoken English is a prerequisite.
