You will play a key role in supporting and developing Maersk’s enterprise-wide initiative to standardize and further develop our existing contractual frameworks, terms and conditions and end-to-end processes for customer contracting.
You will be one of the key points of contact in legal for the L&S business, providing day-to-day advice on all aspects of the L&S products and associated customer contract portfolio and drive, as a Legal Business Partner, the development of the L&S suite of products within Maersk.
In this role you will also be responsible for developing and maintaining processes for supporting sales in the non-standard contracting journey, customer negotiations and generally supporting rollouts of new initiatives within the customer contracting function.
You will provide legal advice and strategic guidance to the product teams and the sales organization and support the Head of Customer Contracting in the implementation of strategic direction of implementation of a global governance for customer contracting, You will oversee and drive customer contracting primarily within our developing Logistics and Services (“L&S”) product portfolio, including contract logistics, customs house brokerage, e-commerce, project logistics and inland transportation services.
Key Responsibilities
- Act as the global lead, trusted legal advisor and Legal Business Partner serving as the customer contracting subject matter expert for several L&S products.
- Negotiate and assist the business in their sales activities and handle negotiations with Maersk’s largest customers as may be required and any post-sales discussions on a product and global level. Provide hands-on support to the contract governance team and assist and support our regional legal organization.
- Act as the trusted legal advisor and subject matter expert to assist the product development team in refining existing and developing new L&S products.
- Ensure a successful and sustainable adherence of customer contracting elements at a global level such as: policies and procedures, communication, risk assessments, contract reviews, conduct in-person trainings to target audience.
- Drive and lead customer contracting initiatives, rollouts, and agenda by establishing and maintaining engaged and constructive relationships with internal stakeholders for ensuring solutions that match and align business and legal needs.
- Lead projects on a global and product level to be the single point of contact between the business and Centre to provide recommendations for complex bespoke contractual setups, including liaising with the regional teams and Centre teams in finance, product, and tax.
- Provide guidance to relevant stakeholders across all Maersk brands regarding provisions in contracts and related negotiations, including responding to and advising relevant internal stakeholders on mitigating actions related to contractual risks and litigation support
- Provide guidance to the global organization in relation to transport documents across the entire portfolio of ocean and L&S products and liaise with the internal stakeholders as may be required in relation to parties, shipments, commodities, and transactions.
- Create and conduct legal training to relevant employees (in person, webinars and/or e-learning).
- Advise stakeholders on legal trends, developing areas of the law, industry trends and related risks that may impact the Maersk’s operations and/or services.
- Participate in external forums and work groups as a representative of Maersk.
- Other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
What we are looking for
- Mandatory education and degree: Bachelor's degree required; Master's degree in law or an equivalent legal qualification related discipline is preferred
- Licensed to practice law and a member in good standing in the jurisdiction in which the license is issued
- At least five years of experience in a legal role focusing on commercial contracting, preferably with an in-house legal team or law firm experience working with in-house legal teams
- Experience in the logistics, supply chain and/or transportation industry is preferable, but we will consider relevant experience in other industries as well
- Good to have experience with drafting, reviewing and negotiating various contracts related to logistics, transportation, procurement and complex commercial transactions, and substantive experience with industry-related regulatory matters
- Excellent interpersonal skills, an inquisitive mind, and the ability to connect and work effectively with multiple, diverse, cross-functional stakeholders, legal organization, third parties and customers.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision while working collaboratively within a local and global team environment
