Contract Manager
Reporting to the Senior Contract Manager, the Contract Manager will be part of the Project Management team working on Contract Management and on contractual, commercial and legal aspects of the “F-bane project” and its related contracts. The F-bane project is organised as a consortium with consortium partners Thales (lead) and Strukton Rail.
The Contract Manager will be working on ensuring contract compliance as well as change management and performing a key integrative function as a member of the project team enabling efficient interfaces with Legal, Finance and Technical Departments. Towards the Customer and other stakeholders it is essential to maintain a collaborative working relationship and good communication as means to ensure efficient change management.

In 2012, Banedanmark, the Danish rail infrastructure, awarded a consortium composed of Thales and Strukton Rail with a contract to upgrade the Signalling system in Jutland, the Western part of Denmark (approx. 1.200 km of the Danish railway network) to the new European ETCS Level 2 system. Since then, Thales in Denmark has been working on the design and building of the system in close cooperation with Strukton Rail and Thales peers in Germany. Internally, the program is called the ‘F-Bane West program’ and deployment phase will be followed by a maintenance phase by 2023.

Contract Manager
Reporting to the Senior Contract Manager, the Contract Manager will be part of the Project Management team working on Contract Management and on contractual, commercial and legal aspects of the “F-bane project” and its related contracts. The F-bane project is organised as a consortium with consortium partners Thales (lead) and Strukton Rail.
The Contract Manager will be working on ensuring contract compliance as well as change management and performing a key integrative function as a member of the project team enabling efficient interfaces with Legal, Finance and Technical Departments. Towards the Customer and other stakeholders it is essential to maintain a collaborative working relationship and good communication as means to ensure efficient change management.
Key Responsibilities and tasks:
- Expert knowledge and understanding of the “F-bane” Contract
- Follow-up of the ongoing project to ensure that the Customer, sub suppliers and Consortium partner are compliant with the Contracts (Terms and Conditions, Statement of work, specifications, etc.)
- Monitor Contract performance through to completion and manage the claims and change management activities including change requests, to the contractual baseline
- Collect information from the project team, process information and calculate changes and claims on behalf of the Consortium
- Commercially finalize change request and prepare for submission including Consortium related splits and financial settlements
- Prepare and submit Change Requests (changes and claims) to the Customer by coordinating cross functional inputs to the proposal from the F-bane Team
- Compile costings, support negotiations and communicate with the Customer as needed
- Sub supplier management of one major Contract in close collaboration with expert team responsible for the day-to-day business
- Support on Contract Management related to the Consortium agreement between Thales and Strukton
- Negotiate terms and conditions in Contracts with the Customer, sub suppliers and other possible contracting entities ensuring contractual compliance
- Maximise opportunities for the project in particular through change management
- Ensure that the project team is aware of the contract and how to manage their discipline in terms of contractual compliance
- Provide advice and guidance to the Project team in contractual matters related to the contracts and changes
- Keep the Senior Contract Manager informed about the status of contractual aspects of the project and changes as well as proactively and timely informed about any potential issues
- Liaise with local Legal Counsel regarding any legal enforcement matters
- Contribute as required in the resolution of contract disputes
- Contract administration of contract archives securing the project team access to updated contractual information
Skills and experience:
- At least 3-5 years of proven experience in contract management, i.e. drafting, negotiating and reviewing commercial variation offers and contracts with customers or alternatively as bid manager/junior project manager with a wish to develop in the area of contract management
- Proactive and independent worker with critical thinking skills
- Excellent writing and spoken skills in English
- Strong analytical skills
- Strong commercial understanding including the ability to look behind the figures and calculate the right price
- Good interpersonal skills
- Intercultural awareness to work in a diverse team
- Bachelor Degree or similar
- Experience in Railway industry would be a plus
