We are seeking a dedicated Associate Scientist with expertise in analytical development. We have expertise in bioprocess development, stem cell biology and GMP compliance and truly believe that stem cell therapies will make a difference in the lives of patients. If this awakens your interest, please apply and support us in translating stem cell products into the clinics.

About the department

The department Stem Cell Process Development is part of Novo Nordisk’s newly established Stem Cell R&D unit, where we develop novel cell replacement therapies for the treatment of serious chronic diseases. Our department focuses on the development of manufacturing and control processes across the entire pluripotent stem cell workflow, starting with cell line derivation and ending with an efficacious and well-characterised product. Diabetes mellitus type 1, Parkinson’s disease and chronic heart failure are only some of the indications we are currently working on. You will join an international and dedicated group of 25 employees, including scientists, laboratory technicians and student workers.

The position

We are seeking a talented Associate Scientist to join our analytical method development team, consisting of experienced scientists and laboratory technicians. In the field of cell therapy, products are typically the result of long and complex in vitro differentiation protocols. Therefore, the development of robust product characterization methods is a key success factor for bringing safe cell therapy products to the market. In this position, you will develop various in vitro assays to characterize pluripotent stem cells, their finally differentiated derivatives and intermediate cell types on their differentiation trajectories.

There will be a focus on developing multi-colour flow cytometry assays. Besides, you will support our development of methods assessing RNA expression, karyotypic stability and genome editing events.

As you will support the analytical development in several of our stem cell projects, you need to generate the appropriate control cell types to go into your experimental setups, such as pluripotent stem cells, pancreatic beta-cells and dopaminergic neurons. Therefore, this position requires daily hands-on work in our analytical and cell culture laboratories. In our department we are currently striving to automate routine analysis tasks and we would like you to join this effort. Overall, you deliver high quality data and results timely to internal stakeholders in all your tasks.

Qualifications

You are passionate about stem cell biology and bioprocess development and hold a master’s degree in cell biology, human biology, biotechnology or a similar field of studies. The ideal candidate has a few years of work experience, but we are also open to newly graduated Masters. Industrial work experience is an advantage, but not a prerequisite. You have a strong background in cell and molecular biology and have documented experience in working hands-on with cell culture and flow cytometry. In general, you have strong laboratory skills and enjoy being in the lab.

You like to analyze, interpret and discuss your scientific data with your colleagues and have a drive to take responsibility for your own projects and progress. Practical experience with stem cell culture systems, RNA expression analysis and precise genome engineering are advantages. Ideally, you also have experience with flow cytometry analysis software and automatic liquid handling stations.

As a person you are a dedicated and result-oriented team player who enjoys working in an innovative, international and open-minded environment. You can manage multiple projects in parallel and have a sound personal judgement to take decisions during your daily work. Finally, we expect you to be fluent in written and spoken English.
