Are you an innovative scientist looking for a new role where you can directly impact clinical development programmes through drug and disease mechanistic understanding? Are you looking to join an exciting new department changing the way drugs are developed at Novo Nordisk? Then please read further!

About the department

You will join Translational Medicine, a growing department of clinical pharmacology and translational medicine scientists building and implementing translational research within global clinical development. As part of the corporate global R&D strategy, the department has a focus on the development of translational and precision medicine strategies and the implementation of biomarkers to guide decision making, patient stratification and patient selection. We work closely with Translational Science, Quantitative Clinical Pharmacology, Biostatistics and Medical & Science to ensure biomarkers are integral from the earliest research experiments through to innovative Phase 3 studies and launched products.

Our commitment is to build a presence and differentiated pipeline in diabetes, obesity, atherosclerosis and non-alcoholic steatohepatitis. Translational Medicine is a part of Global Development and located in Søborg, Denmark. In Global Development, we are responsible for managing clinical drug development worldwide from early development phases to product launch. We provide medical and scientific documentation for clinical submissions and authorities while ensuring that the process lives up to global standards, regulations and business ethics.

The position

The Principal Translational Medicine Scientist is accountable for the development and implementation of translational and precision medicine strategies across clinical development programmes from phase 0 to phase 4. A key element is bridging the molecular mechanistic understanding at the target level with human disease knowledge whilst maintaining a focus on operational feasibility and broader commercial implications.

You will work closely with the translational science research team in the qualification of biomarkers and development of clinically deployable assays and become the scientific and strategic driver responsible for implementing high quality actionable biomarker plans in clinical trials. Tasks could include deployment of mechanistic biomarkers to guide early decision making or development and implementation of precision medicine strategies to select high risk and responsive patients. An essential part of the role is cross functional working and leadership in a multi-disciplinary team. Success could entail companion diagnostic partnership where you can expect to be responsible for the integration of diagnostic development into clinical plans.

As a senior member of the team you will also play a key supporting role in the development of a growing department and the implementation of translational and precision medicine as a new discipline to increase innovation at Novo Nordisk.

The position is based in Søborg, Denmark.

Qualifications

You hold a PhD and/or MD with a scientific background in metabolic and/or cardiovascular disease. You have a minimum of 5 years of translational experience bridging preclinical and clinical preferably in the pharmaceutical industry. Experience of precision medicine and/or diagnostic development would be a bonus.

We are looking for a candidate with these qualifications:

  • Track record in the strategic development and implementation of pharmacodynamic biomarkers and/or precision medicine during the drug development process
  • Pioneering attitude to increase innovation in clinical development and develop differentiated products to meet the unmet medical need of the future patients
  • Dynamic self-starter capable of pro-actively leading biomarker sub-teams
