About ICARS
The International Centre for Antimicrobial Resistance Solutions (ICARS), was established by the Danish government in 2018 with a mission to develop evidence-based solutions to mitigate antimicrobial resistance (AMR) in Low- and Middle-Income Countries (LMICs) across the human, veterinary and environment sectors taking a One Health approach.
Working in partnership with LMICs, ICARS’ projects focus on intervention and implementation research leading to sustainable, scalable AMR mitigating solutions across the One Health sectors. Projects are co-developed and co-designed with LMIC partners who implement the projects.
This is an exciting opportunity to join a new initiative at its inception. You will be part of a growing team that is developing the scientific and organisational foundation of ICARS. About the position
ICARS are currently recruiting a Communications Officer (maternity cover) to lead ICARS’ communications with the support of a Student Assistant.
As Communications Officer, you will play a significant role in our team, supporting implementation of the communications strategy, shaping, and refining external messaging, developing collateral (brochures, annual report, slides etc.), creating and uploading content to the website and social channels, increasing ICARS’ visibility to wider audiences and stakeholders, and supporting the dissemination of project results. You will also facilitate internal communication and manage our SharePoint site.
Your main tasks:
Your background, professional and personal qualifications
As our new Communications Officer, you have a master’s degree in Communications or equivalent demonstrable skills, and more than 3 years of relevant work experience, preferably from a science and health research communications-based position. You have a proven record in communication strategy development and execution. It is important that you have experience with creating channel-appropriate content and running social media accounts.

Terms of employment
Salary and appointment terms will be based on the collective agreement between the Danish Ministry of Finance and the Danish Federation of Professional Associations (AC) (overenskomst for akademikere i staten). Depending on your academic qualifications and experience there is a possibility of being classified as a “fuldmægtig” or a “Special Consultant”.
The role is a fixed term maternity cover for approximately 10 months with the possibility of extension.
We are based at Statens Serum Institut in Copenhagen, Denmark.

As Communications Officer, you will play a significant role in our team, supporting implementation of the communications strategy, shaping, and refining external messaging, developing collateral (brochures, annual report, slides etc.), creating and uploading content to the website and social channels, increasing ICARS’ visibility to wider audiences and stakeholders, and supporting the dissemination of project results. Your main tasks:
- Maintain and support the further development of our website (Wordpress)
- Plan and execute social media activities (Twitter & LinkedIn) to promote ICARS’ activities
- Create marketing materials (brochures, annual report etc.)
- Initiate activities that support ICARS’ search for new partners
- Establish good working relationships with communication leads at key stakeholders such as foundations, governments, organisations, and researchers
- Contribute to dissemination of research results and knowledge sharing
- Refine ICARS’ external messaging
- Support the team in relation to events which ICARS is responsible for or takes part in
- Support the team in their daily meetings by developing slide and assisting at online meetings and conferences
Your background, professional and personal qualifications

- Ability to communicate complex material to different audiences using a variety of formats
- Strong writing, editing and verbal communication skills
- Ability to build strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders
- Ability to manage multiple projects, prioritising appropriately to meet deadlines and communicating clearly with colleagues and stakeholders on progress and when plans change
- Proficiency in English (English is our working language)
- IT-literate (Office, Wordpress, Sharepoint)
- Experience designing reports, infographics and written outputs using Adobe Creative Suite.
