WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR
You will contribute to our work through the development of monitoring frameworks, analyses, capacity-development, and strategic partnerships with a variety of stakeholders: from state actors to rights-holder organisations, in particular indigenous peoples’ organisations.
You will have a strong background in human rights, and an excellent understanding of indigenous peoples’ rights and the related human rights challenges, standards, mechanisms, and procedures.
You have worked with climate change or environmental matters from a human rights perspective, and you are used to working with international, regional and/or national partners. To facilitate dialogue and capacity-development processes with partners from diverse cultural backgrounds comes naturally to you.
You are confident working with both state and non-state actors, including government officials, national human rights institutions, civil society organisations and local organisations.
You have a good understanding of what it takes to achieve results in complex country contexts and have strong analytical and communication skills. You can work independently, and also thrive being part of a diverse and dynamic team.

ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT
You will be part of the Human Rights and Sustainable Development & Americas Department. We work with strategic partners, including UN agencies, national authorities, civil society networks, indigenous peoples’ organisations, and national human rights institutions.
We support a human rights-based approach to national sustainable development processes, bringing these experiences to bear on international discussions and policy processes.
We develop tools and analyses, engage in global dialogues on a human rights-based approach to sustainable development, build the capacity of development and human rights stakeholders in this regard, and use human rights data, standards, and mechanisms to guide the integration of human rights and the rights of groups in vulnerable situations into sustainable development processes and initiatives around the world.
CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT
The position is full-time based in Copenhagen with some international travel. Salary is set in accordance with the Danish Ministry of Finance’s agreement with the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations.

YOUR QUALIFICATIONS AND COMPETENCIES
Essential
- Professional or educational background in human rights and knowledge of the interlinkages between human rights and sustainable development
- Experience in working with indigenous peoples’ organisations and networks on human rights
- Good understanding of human rights, Sustainable Development Goal indicators, and participatory approaches to data collection
- Experience in strategically using relevant national, regional and international human rights and sustainable development mechanisms for securing better national implementation of human rights and indigenous peoples’ rights
- Experience in working with national-level actors to address discrimination and inequalities, and to implement human rights standards in a sustainable development context
- Experience in advocacy and in building networks, collaboration, dialogue, and programmes with different actors
- Ability to learn fast and to work with a variety of stakeholders
- Fluency in English.
Desirable
- Experience in working in Africa and/or Latin America
- Experience in integrating and promoting gender justice in programmes and stakeholder cooperation
- Experience in capacity-building and training
- Ability to work in Spanish or French
