What we are looking for We are looking for a new colleague with professional experience in working with human rights and sustainable development. You will contribute to our work to promote just and equitable sustainable development, through analysis, agenda-setting work, and cooperation with partners.
You will have a strong background in human rights and an excellent understanding of human rights mechanisms and the interface between human rights and development. You are used to working with international, regional, and national processes and partners, and you have experience with promoting equality and non-discrimination and a human rights-based approach to development.
You have international experience from different country contexts, and a good understanding of what it takes to achieve results under complex circumstances, and you have strong analytical and communication skills. You can work independently, but also thrive being part of a diverse and dynamic team.

About the department You will be part of the human rights and sustainable development department. We work with partners in a number of countries - in Africa, Latin America, and Asia, and have some engagements in the European neighbourhood and in the Middle East and North African region too.
We support a human rights-based approach to national sustainable development processes, bringing these experiences to bear on international discussions and policy processes.
We develop tools and analyses, engage in global dialogues on a human rights-based approach to sustainable development, and build the capacity of development and human rights stakeholders in this regard. We use human rights data, standards, and mechanisms to guide the integration of human rights and the rights of groups in vulnerable situations into sustainable development processes and initiatives around the world.
Conditions of employment The position is full-time based in Copenhagen with some international travel. Salary is set in accordance with the Danish Ministry of Finance’s agreement with the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations, with the possibility to negotiate a qualification supplement.

Your qualifications and competencies Essential
- Professional or educational background in human rights and knowledge of the interlinkages between human rights and sustainable development
- Experience in working with national-level actors to implement human rights standards in a development context – including government officials, development agencies and national human rights institutions.
- Experience in working with non-state actors, including civil society organisations, communities, and rights-holder organisations.
- Knowledge of the relevant national and international monitoring and reporting mechanisms for sustainable development and for human rights, and how they play out in a country context.
- Experience in policy analysis and advocacy
- Fluency in English.
Desirable
- At least five years working experience from a similar position.
- Experience in working in Africa and/or Latin America.
- Experience in working with human rights defenders, gender or LGBT+ issues, or indigenous peoples.
- Experience in capacity-building and training.
- Ability to work in Spanish.
