Applications are invited for a position as Multi-photon intra-vital Microscopy applications specialist at the Core Facility for Integrated Microscopy (CFIM), the Faculty of Health Sciences, University of Copenhagen, to commence as soon as possible after 1st of October 2024. The position is time-limited for 2,5 years.

CFIM (www.cfim.ku.dk) was inaugurated in August 2010 and has serviced more than 2600 users with access to state of the art light- and electron microscopes. CFIM is located in the center of Copenhagen, at the North Campus of the University and has the mission of giving highest-level user service provision in advanced microscopy technologies to internal and external users from a broad range of disciplines within life sciences. CFIM is part of the Danish BioImaging Infrastructure, and the Danish Euro-BioImaging Node.

The successful applicant will be part of a highly international team composed of light and electron microscopy application specialists, an image analyst, laboratory technicians and secretary covering ten different nationalities. In addition, the successful applicant will work in close collaboration with a team of veterinarians and animal caretakers at the Department of Experimental Medicine (AEM).

The successful applicant will be responsible for:

  • Implementing and providing in vivo/intra-vital imaging services at CFIM in collaboration with the AEM staff.
  • Developing/implementing surgery and sample preparation protocols for in vivo/intra-vital imaging
  • Creating data handling and post-processing solutions for the acquired datasets in collaboration with the CFIM image analyst
  • Maintenance and development of the in vivo/intra-vital imaging systems
  • Laboratory and surgery room management
  • Introducing, training and supporting users on their in vivo/intra-vital experiments
  • Meeting CFIM users to define optimal imaging strategies according to the facility’s portfolio
  • Staying up to date with the latest developments in microscopy methods and technology, with focus on in vivo (intra-vital imaging applications)
  • Helping with the organization of and the teaching in CFIM courses

The successful applicant should have:

  • Relevant experience in light microscopy applications in general, holding a M.Sc. or PhD. degree in related scientific disciplines
  • Experience in animal handling and surgery
  • A formal qualification for working with laboratory animals corresponding to EU level ADB, or Danish legislation § 56 and § 57 of Bekendtgørelsen om dyreforsøg.
  • Strong motivation to support and train users with a problem-solving mindset
  • Excellent social, communication and organization skills
  • Fluency in English
  • Expertise in multi-photon, FLIM and SHG technologies will be considered an advantage
  • Previous experience with image-data management, processing and analysis will be considered an advantage

Salary and employment terms

The employment is a full time, and will be as special consultant (specialkonsulent), in accordance with the provisions of the collective agreement between the Danish Government and AC (the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations), with the possibility to negotiate a salary supplement based on prior experiences and qualifications. The employer will pay an additional 17.1 % to your pension fund.

The employment is to commence on 1st October 2024 or soon thereafter. It is limited for 2,5 years.

In addition to the seniority-based salary, supplements may be negotiated on an individual basis.
