The Niels Bohr Institute at Faculty of Science, the University of Copenhagen is looking for two Nanofabrication Engineers with effect from 1 December 2023 or as soon as possible thereafter.

About us

The Novo Nordisk Foundation Quantum Computing Programme (NQCP) is establishing a talented and diverse international team to create a cutting-edge quantum programme in the heart of Copenhagen, Denmark. At the Niels Bohr Institute, University of Copenhagen, where the formulation of Quantum Mechanics was born 100 years ago, we aim to establish an international quantum computing programme, generously funded by the Novo Nordisk Foundation, that will drive research and innovations at multiple levels - from developing scalable quantum processor technologies to solutions for the quantum-classical control and readout interface, and all the way to quantum algorithms and applications. The long-term mission of the programme is to develop fault-tolerant quantum computing hardware and quantum algorithms that solve life-science-relevant chemical and biological problems.

Tasks
We are seeking two experienced fabrication process engineers to our nanofabrication team. Working closely with Platform Integration and Fabrication Tools Development teams, you will work with the development of fabrication processes for wafer-based components for our quantum processors. The scope of responsibility centres on materials and device fabrication, along with data tracking & analysis. The position requires a high degree of cross-functional collaboration and teamwork.

Responsibilities

  • Develop device and wafer-scale fabrication processes in close collaboration with Fabrication Tools Development, Characterization and Quantum Platform Integration teams.
  • Implement and document in-process work streams, protocol instructions, tests & specifications.
  • Analyze correlations between processes (process parameters/conditions, metrology data).
  • Track variation and process capability, identify and support continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Involvement in tool development for enabling new fabrication technologies.
  • Analyze requirements against existing capabilities and estimate risks and yields for new processes.

Qualifications

  • Master in material science, chemical engineering, physics or related.
  • 2+ years’ experience with microelectronics.
  • Experience with fab processing techniques including e-beam and optical lithography, dry and wet etching methods, PVD etc. is preferred.
  • Proficient in data tracking and analysis methods (e.g., six sigma concepts).
  • Ability to assume a technical leadership role while driving an innovative culture and growth mindset.

Terms of salary and employment
The employment and salary are made in accordance with the Circular on the Collective Agreement concerning academics in the state sector concluded between the Ministry of Finance and AC (the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations).

The employment will be as academic employee or special consultant and the salary is based on seniority. Negotiation for salary supplement is possible. The working time are 37 hours per week on average. The working hours are flexible.

The position is limited until 31 December 2029 and appointment will be subject to receipt of a security clearance.
