We are seeking a Bioinformatician to strengthen our abilities to draw robust biological inferences from large-scale data generated in the Single-Cell Omics Platform. The role is an exciting opportunity for ambitious candidates with a bioinformatics background to work in the field of genomics services. The successful candidate will work in the Single-Cell Omics Platform that provides the Center’s researchers with cutting-edge bulk and single-cell transcriptomics and epigenetics techniques, using the state-of-the-art equipment, data science and machine learning approaches. The starting date is February 1, 2024, or after agreement.

About the Platform
The Single-Cell Omics Platform is an integral part of the Center and is embedded tightly into the Danish single-cell community. The team has solid expertise in working with single-cell data, and currently comprises Laboratory Technicians, Bioinformaticians, Mathematicians and a Platform Manager.

The role

As a Bioinformatician in the Single-Cell Omics Platform, you will be responsible for processing, analyzing, and interpreting both single-cell and bulk sequencing data as well as developing and implementing new analysis workflows.

Primary tasks

  • To develop and maintain computational workflows to process and analyze both single-cell and bulk sequencing data.
  • To apply computational tools on primary sequencing data from research groups across the Center.


Your profile
Required education/skills:

  • A PhD degree in data science, applied math, applied statistics, bioinformatics, computer science, systems biology or the like
  • 5+ years of experience analyzing RNA-, sRNA-, RRBS-, ChIP- and HiC-seq data
  • Experience with processing, analysis and interpretation of single cell RNA and epigenetic assays using tools such as Seurat, Scanpy, Cell Ranger and Salmon Alevin.
  • Extensive knowledge of epigenetics
  • Advanced knowledge of R and domain specific languages in R
  • Strong skills in statistics and data visualization, especially relating to the biological sciences
  • Broad knowledge of statistical modelling frameworks for the analysis of various types of next generation sequencing data
  • Extensive experience working with various types of High Performance Computing clusters
  • Experience developing bioinformatics pipelines in pipeline management tools such as Snakemake or Nextflow
  • Capacity to troubleshoot all steps from raw sequencing data to final results across multiple sequencing machines and analysis methods.
  • Proven track record of publication in peer reviewed scientific journals

Personal skills:

  • Motivated and hardworking personality with good social skills
  • Motivated to instruct researchers with less advanced programming skills in using the Platform’s computational workflows
  • Excellent written and oral English communication skills

Desirable criteria:

  • Strong skills in scripting and working in the Linux/UNIX environment
  • Understanding of the experimental protocols responsible for generating sequencing data
  • Experience in reactive programming
  • Experience in analyzing spatial transcriptomics data
  • Experience working in a core facility
  • Experience working in with cloud computing

Place of employment
The place of employment is the Novo Nordisk Foundation Center for Basic Metabolic Research, Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences, University of Copenhagen.

Terms of salary and employment

The employment as a bioinformatician is a full-time and permanent position starting February 1, 2024, or after agreement.

Employment will be as Research Consultant in accordance with the provisions of the collective agreement between the Danish ministry of Finance and AC (the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations), with the possibility to negotiate a salary supplement based on prior experiences and qualifications.
