The Danish Refugee Council (DRC) assists refugees and internally displaced persons across the globe. DRC was founded in Denmark 1956 rooted in the civil society and has since grown to become an international humanitarian organization with more than 8,000 employees and thousands of volunteers across 7 regions and +35 countries and with a turnover of more than 3 billion DKK. About the job
The overall purpose of the role is to develop relationships with institutional donors and support DRC’s +35 country operations in matters of donor relations and compliance. The DRA will ensure that relationships with key institutional donors are developed and strengthened for increased funding and policy influencing. The DRA will in particular be responsible for managing and developing DRC’s relationships with DFID and other UK government entities and provide internal guidance and capacity building on DFID and other UK government entities’ compliance regulations. In addition to that, the DRA will be responsible for relationship development with other key governmental donors of DRC and for providing direction on funding opportunities for DRC globally.
The DRA will be joining the External Relations Secretariat, which is located in HQ Copenhagen and works closely with DRC’s Representative Offices in Brussels and Geneva. The function will report to the Head of External Relations Secretariat and work alongside Donor Compliance Advisors and Policy Advisors. The role includes good opportunities for developing internal relationships with colleagues in DRC Country Offices as well as policy and support departments in HQ.
Responsibilities (will include but not be limited to):
1. Building relationships with DFID and other UK government entities
- Develop DRC’s strategy for engaging with DfID and other UK government entities and coordinate strategy implementation across HQ and DRC regional and country offices
- Facilitate the organization of meetings and, to the extend relevant, take part in senior level meetings with DFID London.
- Provide briefing material to management and other internal stakeholders on DFID and other UK government entities’ funding policies and trends
- Engage geographical operations on untapped DFID and other UK government funding opportunities and provide guidance on what is required to access funding
- Attend external events of relevance for DRC’s relationship with DFID and other UK government entities, including through the UK Bond network
2. Building relationships with key institutional donors
- Investigate the donor environment, funding policies and trends as a basis for selecting key institutional donors and provide recommendations for DRC to (further) invest in relationship development initiatives
- Develop engagement strategies and coordinate strategy implementation across HQ and DRC regional and country offices
- Facilitate internal knowledge sharing on new funding opportunities for select donors
- Plan and facilitate, and as relevant take part in, high-level meetings with key institutional donors
3. Internal guidance and capacity building on DFID and other UK government entity compliance requirements
Note that internal capacity building on DfID and other UK government donor compliance will be done in close collaboration with Donor Compliance Advisors within the External Relations Secretariat as well as in the representative offices in Brussels and Geneva and the HQ Programme Division.
- Develop tools and resources (e.g. Donorpedia) on DFID donor compliance
- Provide day to day support to operations through the DFID ‘Help Desk’ and take part in coordination of communication to the Donor Compliance Network (DCN)
- Provide internal trainings and briefings – physical trainings, in Copenhagen and globally, as well as webinar and possibly other online platform trainings
About you
To be successful in this role we expect you to have a good knowledge of the humanitarian and development sector and possess excellent communication and presentation skills. You should be able to demonstrate the ability to work independently in a small team and form close working relationships with colleagues from a diverse range of backgrounds. You are highly motivated, innovative and take flexible approach to your work.

Experience and technical competencies:
Required
- Master’s degree in humanitarian studies, business studies, law or similar and a minimum of 5 years of relevant professional experience
- Good understanding of institutional donor’s policies and priorities for funding allocations
- Experience with development of donor funding strategies
- Understanding of DfID funding systems, methods, guidelines and contract compliance, including how to negotiate these
- Experience with obtaining and managing funding from some or all of DRC’s main donors Danida, DfID, EU, US Government and UNHCR or other UN agencies
- Track record in coordination of multi-country proposals
- Experience with or keen interest in designing and conducting trainings on donor compliance for staff and other stakeholders
- Excellent coordination, networking and diplomatic skills
- Willingness and ability to travel and operate in a physically demanding working environment
- Fluency in English
Desirable
- Working knowledge of French or Danish
- Substantial experience working and living in one or more of the countries in which DRC is operational
- Experience with working within the humanitarian sector on issues related to refugee and IDP response
We offer
Contract length: 12 Months Fixed-Contract
Work place: Borgergade 10, Copenhagen.
Start date: 1st September 2019
Salary and conditions will be in accordance with the agreement between DRC and AC-organization. This is a national position for which local terms and conditions apply.
