dnasense is seeking a laboratory technician for our cutting-edge DNA sequencing laboratory. Tasks include customised DNA extraction from a wide variety of samples, Illumina and Nanopore sequencing library preparation, and a broad range of QC analyses.
Qualifications
Certified laboratory technician, preferably with experience from private company laboratories. Training and experience with routine molecular biology, DNA/RNA extraction and PCR operations are required. Experience with next-generation DNA sequencing and sequencing library preparation is favourable. It is important to enjoy routine tasks with an emphasis on details and operation effectiveness. User level skills for basic software systems (podio, MS office suite, dropbox, etc.) are required, and more advanced coding or data management skills are also favourable. Basic English reading, writing, and speaking proficiency is required, while Danish proficiency is advantageous but not absolutely required.
dnasense has a relatively small and highly dedicated team working on the most challenging sequencing projects, thus good social skills are critical for the whole team succeeding and work life remaining enjoyable even during difficult work. We typically have one weekly lunch together and 3-4 company outings a year to facilitate teamwork.
Responsibilities
Primary responsibilities are the coordination and completion of high-end laboratory procedures using in-house SOPs. Much of the work involves DNA/RNA extractions from all kinds of biomass samples from all over the world. QC procedures using spectrofluorimetry, capillary gel electrophoresis, etc. are done following extractions and before different PCR and DNA-ligation approaches to prepare sequencing libraries for Illumina and Oxford Nanopore Technologies. Completing sequencing using various Illumina and ONT platforms may be involved.
Most tasks are routine and based on SOPs, however a critical focus on electronic journaling, meticulous record keeping, and sample labelling and physical storage is essential. dnasense is continuously at the leading-edge of the latest technologies, so quick adaptation to complex tasks in a dynamic work environment is also needed. Individual tasks are based on SOPs but multiple complex projects may be underway simultaneously and requires good overview and management skills.
