We are looking for a highly motivated and independent Laboratory Technician with knowledge in neuroscience, molecular techniques and animal experimentation as well as experience with managing an international and high-paced research laboratory.

Description of the research team:

Kiehn Lab at the Department of Neuroscience works with molecular, cellular and neurophysiological studies of the nervous system that control motor behavior in the normal and diseased brain. The research group is growing and is currently consisting of 15 group members at the University of Copenhagen and Karolinska University in Sweden. Your job:

Specifically your tasks will be to manage the lab for the research group in Copenhagen. You will be managing purchasing of reagents and consumables, taking care of lab-environment, ensuring that the lab complies with rules and regulations, implementation of modifications to lab protocols as needed by the group members. You will be expected to perform genotyping of mice, to take care of animal protocols and to contribute and support the ongoing research projects in the group on an ad hoc basis. Also, you will collaborate with the technical and administrative staff in the department.

Qualifications:

Essential experience and skills

  • Laboratory technician degree, or an MSc in medicine/life sciences or equivalent
  • You are organized and have previous management experience of experimental laboratories
  • You have experience in helping in the preparation of progress and dissemination reports on the technical processes
  • You have experience with molecular biology including genotyping
  • You have experience in dealing with laboratory waste management and risk assessment protocols
  • Experience with animals experimentation is an advantage
  • You have a service-minded attitude, including experience training others
  • You have willingness to acquire new technical expertise
  • You have good English and Danish skills, written and spoken

    Desirable experience and skills
  • You experience with a wide range of techniques such as rodent handling (FELESA B or C), sample sequencing and experience with tissue processing and histology (e.g., cryostat, staining, microscopy)

Terms of salary and employment:

This is a full-time position and employment will be in accordance with the provisions of the collective agreement between the Danish Ministry of Finance and AC (the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations). The monthly salary will be based on the number of years of work experience (seniority) with the possibility to negotiate a salary supplement based on prior experiences and qualifications. The employer will pay an additional 17.1 % to your pension fund.

Or in accordance with the joint collective agreement between the Danish Financial Ministry and Public Employee Organizations - The Government Area (OAO-S Joint Agreement) and the agreement for HK-laboratory technicians in government service. The position is placed in salary group 4 with the possibility to negotiate a salary supplement based on prior experiences and qualifications. The employer will pay an additional 15% to your pension fund.

The position is funded for five years.
