We are a young and diverse scientific team, which is transitioning to become a full-scale manufacturing company with yeast fermentation at its core. We are looking for a motivated, hands-on Fermentation Lab Technician/Assistant to help us on this journey.
Job description:
You will join the Fermentation R&D team. We collaborate closely with the Strain Development team, and our tasks range from strain and process validation to integrated process development, including fermentation and recovery.
The Fermentation Lab Technician/Assistant will collaborate with the Fermentation Scientist on day-to-day operations of a series of lab-scale bioreactors, which are used to characterise BioPhero’s engineered microorganisms and to produce various pheromones.
Our new colleague will be responsible for preparing, running, and collecting data from fermentation runs, ensuring that batch records are maintained for all runs.
As fermentation work may require some off-hour work, flexibility and the ability to adjust to a rolling sampling schedule, which may include weekends, is a requirement.

Main responsibilities:
- Daily operations of our 1L bioreactors, including inoculum preparation, medium preparation, sterilisation, sampling, sample preparation and analysis, process monitoring, maintenance, and cleaning of equipment
- Analyses of samples from fermentation trials using different techniques
- Batch documentation, data handling, and reporting of the analytical results
- Keeping of clean and orderly laboratories at all times
- Regular review and improvement of our methods, experimental set-up, and workflows
- Occasional weekend work
Qualifications:
The ideal candidate will bring the following experiences and qualifications to the role:
- You are a trained laboratory technician or hold an academic degree in microbiology, biochemical engineering, or related discipline with a minimum of one year’s experience in a laboratory setting
- You have hands-on experience with lab routines for operating, monitoring, and analysing bench-scale fermentation trials (preferably with yeast), as well as familiarity with aseptic work
- You have the ability and desire to execute experimental plans independently
- You are efficient and take pride in maintaining a meticulous work and documentation practice, whether the task is novel or routine
- You are fluent in English, both oral and written
