About the department

The department Stem Cell Process Development is part of Novo Nordisk’s newly established Stem Cell R&D unit, where we develop novel cell replacement therapies for the treatment of serious chronic diseases. Our department focuses on the development of manufacturing processes and related analysis. We control processes across the entire pluripotent stem cell workflow, starting with cell line derivation and ending with an efficacious and well-characterised product. Diabetes mellitus type 1, Parkinson’s disease and chronic heart failure are only some of the indications we are currently working on. You will join an international and dedicated group of 25 employees, including scientists, project leaders, laboratory technicians and student workers. We have expertise in bioprocess development, stem cell biology and GMP compliance and truly believe that stem cell therapies will make a difference in the lives of patients.

The Position

As a laboratory technician in Stem Cell Process Development your key responsibilities will be to expand human embryonic stem cells and to differentiate them in suspension in bioreactor systems. In close collaboration with scientists and based on protocols developed by our colleagues in Stem Cell Research you will perform experiments to develop the process that will be transferred to our manufacturing site in Fremont, San Francisco (US). The candidate is also expected to perform a variety of other tasks in the lab., including handling of samples for FACS, RNA analysis, microscopy and media preparation.

Qualifications

You have a solid hands-on experience with mammalian cell cultivation in adherent culture systems, and preferably also in suspension (Bioreactor) systems and like to work independently.

The ideal candidate has experience within the following:

  • Cell culture experience, preferentially with stem cells and mammalian cell lines
  • Aseptic handling
  • Basic molecular biology knowledge
  • Bioreactor experience
  • Problem solving

Since we are working in an international environment; you are confident in English, both verbally and written.
