Are you curious and want to work with novel technologies within the field of stem cell biology to develop processes for stem cell-based therapies? Then this job may be right for you.
We are seeking a proactive laboratory technician who is passionate about working with (pluripotent stem) cells in a vibrant department.
About the department
The department Stem Cell Process Development is part of Novo Nordisk’s newly established Stem Cell R&D unit, where we develop novel cell replacement therapies for the treatment of serious chronic diseases. Our department focuses on the development of stem cell manufacturing processes and related analyses. We control processes across the entire pluripotent stem cell workflow, starting with cell line derivation and ending with an efficacious and well-characterised product. Diabetes mellitus type 1, Parkinson’s disease and chronic heart failure are only some of the indications we are currently working on. You will join an international and dedicated group of around 35 employees, including scientists, project leaders, laboratory technicians and student workers. We have expertise in bioprocess development, stem cell biology and GMP compliance and truly believe that stem cell therapies will make a difference in the lives of patients suffering from chronic diseases. If this awakens your interest, please apply and support us in progressing our stem cell projects into the clinic.
The position
As a laboratory technician in Stem Cell Process Development your key responsibilities will be to expand and maintain human pluripotent stem cells, perform quality control to maintain high quality cell lines, and to differentiate them into different cell types on adherent and suspension-based culture systems across multiple projects. In close collaboration with scientists and, based on protocols developed by our colleagues in Stem Cell Research, you will perform experiments to develop the process that will be transferred to our manufacturing site in Fremont, California (USA). The candidate is also expected to perform a variety of other tasks in the lab, including microscopy, reagent procurement, -receipt and -preparation, processing of cell samples for Flow Cytometry, DNA and RNA extraction, PCR and gene editing.
Qualifications
You have an education as Laboratory Technician, combined with a solid hands-on experience with mammalian cell cultivation in adherent and/or suspension culture systems, operating under established procedures. Further, you like to work independently.
The ideal candidate in addition has:
- 3 or more years’ experience in maintaining mammalian cell cultures with strong aseptic handing skills, microscopy and processing samples for different analytical methods
- Experience in the work with stem cells, particularly human pluripotent stem cells will be a strong plus
- Experience in Molecular biology techniques, including DNA and RNA isolation, and PCR-based assays (qPCR, RT-qPCR, ddPCR, etc.)
- Experience in preparation of media, chemicals and reagents required for cell culture
- Experience in participation in general laboratory responsibilities, including maintaining, ordering and organizing laboratory supplies and ensuring maintenance of equipment
- Experience and flair for maintaining organized and detailed up-to-date electronic lab notebook records to support internal documentation needs
- Attention for details and drive for problem solving
- Excellent time management skills and the ability to multitask and contribute to multiple projects under demanding timelines
Additional experience of value:
- Hands-on knowledge in advanced molecular biology techniques, including repertoire of molecular cloning tools
- Process development in a CMC setting, including knowledge of the regulatory requirements working in controlled GxP environment
- Technical transfer of manufacturing processes
Since we are working in an international environment; proficiency in English, both written and spoken, is a prerequisite.
As a person, you are open-minded and a good communicator by nature. You have a high level of energy that drives you and inspires your colleagues. You thrive in a changing and dynamic work environment, and in a job that requires you to be flexible, take initiatives and think out of the box when challenges occur.
