The Department of Nuclear Medicine at Odense University Hospital, the University of Southern Denmark invites applications for a PhD scholarship within the field of bioinorganic chemistry/radiochemistry for a collaborative project funded by the Novo Nordisk Foundation. The position is available from 1st of August 2020 or as soon as possible thereafter. Application deadline: 1st of June 2020.
The project concerns the development of new cancer theranostics for radionuclide therapy and PET/SPECT imaging using Auger electron and gamma-emitting Sb and Co isotope pairs. The project will focus on evaluation and characterization of new biocompatible chelating ligands complexing radioactive Sb and Co isotopes. The complexes will be conjugated with moieties to allow for selectively targeting the DNA in cancer cells. The developed radioligands will be characterized in vitro including evaluation of their radiotherapeutic effects in cancer cells.
The project is part of a national/international collaboration with the groups of Prof. Christine McKenzie at the University of Southern Denmark and Dr Andrew Kellett of Dublin City University.
Qualifications of the applicant:
• Recent MSc degree – or similar – in chemistry/physics.
• Full proficiency in spoken and written English.
• Experience with handling radioisotopes, radioanalytical procedures as well as experience with cellular assays and in vitro work will be considered an advantage.

Appointment as a PhD Research Fellow is for three years. Employment stops automatically at the end of the period. The holder of the scholarship is not allowed to have other paid employment during the three-year period.
The successful applicant will be employed in accordance with the agreement on salaried PhD scholars between the Ministry of Finance and AC (the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations). Please check links for more information on salary and taxation.
The successful candidate will be enrolled at this university in accordance with faculty regulations and the Danish Ministerial Order on the PhD programs at the Universities.
