Mental Health Center Ballerup seeks a psychiatrist with a PhD (or equivalent) to join a strong international research environment within eating disorders as a senior researcher (at Assistant or Associate Professor level).
The position will be offered between 80-100% FTE and will include research (60%) and clinical commitments (20-40%).
Research: You will contribute to a range of research projects in eating disorders, in particular studies on the biology of eating disorders within a large grant led by Prof N Micali. You will have the opportunity to develop your own portfolio of projects in addition and over time.
You will have diverse tasks and responsibilities, depending on your level of expertise, including leading and managing research projects, supervising and mentoring junior staff, data analysis, writing manuscripts, developing your own research projects and applying for funding, etc. in collaboration with in-house, national and international collaborators.
As well as benefitting from this large collaborative grant, you will benefit from an extensive network of collaborations both within Denmark and abroad.
Regarding research you will report to the Head of CEDaR (Prof Nadia Micali)
Clinical: You will contribute clinically to the out-patient department of the Capital Region Specialist Centre for Eating Disorders, led by Dr Else Marie Olsen.
In particular your tasks will include assessment and making treatment plans for newly assessed patients in collaboration with the clinical staff, as well as assessing psychiatric comorbidity and initiate medical treatment when needed.
You will also play an important role in implementing research in the clinic.
In this part of the position, you will report to Dr Else Marie Olsen.
Environment
You will join a dynamic and growing team and work across the Center for Eating and Feeding Disorders Research (CEDaR). The team is multidisciplinary and international, and it includes researchers across various levels of seniority.
The Center has a large portfolio of grants, across epidemiological, genetic, neuroimaging, and clinical intervention studies in feeding and eating disorders. We are a dynamic, collaborative, and international team, that is rapidly growing. The unit has several international collaborations with the UK, US, Sweden, Germany, Spain, Norway, Italy, and Switzerland.
Research in eating disorders is a highly prioritized research area of the Mental Health Services in the Capital Region of Denmark. We have a strong commitment to perform research at the highest international level with the aim of providing new insights into what causes eating disorders and better treatments for patients.
Qualifications
To be considered for this position, you must have completed your training as an Adult or Child and Psychiatrist in Denmark, Sweden or Norway and hold a PhD (or equivalent) in neuroscience, neurobiology, metabolism, physiology or a related field.
The ideal applicant:
Fluency in Danish or a Scandinavian language is preferred, excellent oral and written communication skills in English are required.
Conditions:
Salary, pension and other conditions of employment are set in accordance with the Agreement between the Ministry of Finance and AC (Danish Confederation of Professional Associations) or other relevant organisations.
The position is in accordance with best Danish labour practices, including a 37-hour work week, six weeks of paid vacation per annum, funded parental leave, matched pension contributions, enrolment in national healthcare, and labour union representation.
The position is funded by a 7-year Laureate award from the Novo Nordisk Foundation (NNF) grant to Prof Micali, and offered for an initial fixed-term of 1 year, that can at a second stage be extended to 5 years and become permanent.
Non-Danish applicants may be eligible for tax reductions if they hold a PhD degree and have not lived in Denmark in the last 10 years.

Since 2017, treatment of all adult patients with Eating Disorders in the Capital region has been located at Mental Health Centre Ballerup, and around one thousand patients are referred for treatment each year, making it one of the largest clinics for Eating Disorders in Europe.
Mental Health Center Ballerup is a part of Copenhagen University Hospital and one of nine departments, that provide treatment for mental disorders in the Capital Region of Denmark. The department consists of ten inpatient wards comprising 157 beds, nine outpatient clinics with several specialized functions and three research groups. We employ around 90 medical doctors and 80 psychologists in addition to nurses, physiotherapists, occupational therapists, social workers, and technical and administrative staff.
