A clinical position as consultant in the Department of Clinical Microbiology at Rigshospitalet is open for appointment from as soon as possible.

The position is combined with a 10-year position as clinical professor of Clinical Microbiology at the Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences, University of Copenhagen.

With this new position the Department of Clinical Microbiology at Rigshospitalet wishes to strengthen the leadership in clinical research and teaching in collaboration with the University of Copenhagen.

It is a requirement that the applicant is accepted for appointment of both the professorship and the consultancy.

ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT
The Department of Clinical Microbiology is part of Centre of Diagnostic Investigation, Rigshospitalet, and it is a highly specialized department in the Capital Region, which offers diagnostics and advice in infectious diseases and infection control issues.

The department is leading in the diagnostics and treatment of rare and complicated infections, including infections in transplant patients, patients in chemo- and immunotherapy, patients with tropical diseases and patients with chronic infections. The Department of Clinical Microbiology advises at app. 20 clinical conferences weekly and advises on the diagnosis and treatment of infectious diseases around the clock for Rigshospitalet, and for the entire Capital Region from 22:00 to 08.00, all year round.

The Department of Clinical Microbiology is responsible for infection hygiene at Rigshospitalet and numerous Regional and National monitoring tasks within antibiotic consumption and antibiotic resistance.

The department is at the forefront of the use of new technology, including ‘point-of-care’ diagnostics and advanced molecular biological methods, and is constantly seeking to improve the diagnostics and infection control at Rigshospitalet. The Department of Clinical Microbiology uses the latest advanced molecular biology methods for the diagnosis and investigation of outbreaks of hospital-acquired infections and the presence of special resistant microorganisms, and this is carried out in collaboration with the other clinical microbiology departments in the country.

In terms of research, the department is at a high international level in the fields of cystic fibrosis and Pseudomonas infections, contaminant infections and biofilm, endocarditis, urinary tract infections, intestinal bacteriology, fungal infections, antibiotics and resistance, malaria and tropical diseases, outbreak investigation and infection control.

Clinical functions and focus areas of the department
The consultant will have to take fully part of clinically microbiological workflow, i.e. clinical conferences, guidance of trainees and lab-technicians, and being part of the senior staff of the department.

The consultant is expected to be present in the Department of Clinical Microbiology at least 50% of working hour.

Science is highly prioritized in the Department of Clinical Microbiology, and especially clinically research including patients treated at Rigshospitalet, but also collaborations to other scientists at Rigshospitalet, in the Capital Region, in Denmark or Internationally, with be appreciated.

Research and teaching

The new position as consultant in the Department of Clinical Microbiology, Rigshospitalet and clinical professor of Clinical Microbiology at the University of Copenhagen will strengthen leadership in clinical research and teaching.

Qualifications

Applicants must be board-certified specialist in Clinical Microbiology, have experience with guidance in therapy of complicated infections in immunocompromised patients and in trauma patients, beside some experience in infection control.

Conditions

In order to be considered, the applicant must send an application to both the Faculty (the professorship) and to the hospital (the consultancy) cf. the simultaneously advertised position of the professorship. Appointment is conditioned by the fact that the applicant obtains both positions. This also applies to the applicants who are already employed as consultants at Rigshospitalet.

Salary and conditions of employment as consultant are as agreed between the Danish Regions and the Danish Association of Medical Specialists and between the Capital Region/Region Zealand and University of Copenhagen.

As clinical professor 50 % of the working time will be allocated to academic tasks (e.g. research, teaching, evaluation tasks and communication with the public) in agreement with the Head of Department of Department of Clinical Medicine at the University of Copenhagen. The remaining time will be allocated for clinical work in agreement with the head of the Department of Clinical Microbiology. The clinical professor will receive secretarial or technical support equivalent to 50 % of a full time secretary position from the department of clinical microbiology. Additional support and details on the working conditions must be negotiated.
