A clinical position as consultant of psychiatry at the Psychiatric Center Copenhagen is open for appointment from as soon as possible.
The position is combined with a 10-year externally funded position as clinical professor of Neuropsychiatry at the Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences, University of Copenhagen.
With this new position the Psychiatric Center Copenhagen, The Mental Health Services wishes to strengthen the leadership in clinical research and teaching in collaboration with the University of Copenhagen.
It is a requirement that the applicant is accepted for appointment of both the professorship and the consultancy.

About the department Psychiatric Center Copenhagen is located at Bispebjerg Hospital, Gentofte Hospital, and various smaller locations. Additionally, the centre has three district mental health centres in Østerbro, Nørrebro and Nordvest. These district mental health centres offer an OPUS-team, three outreach mental health teams and an outreach team focused on the elderly. The centre is the largest of its kind in Denmark, employ around 1200 full time equivalent staff, house 253 psychiatric beds, have approximately 85,000 out-patient contacts, and see 7,500 emergency patients every year. Psychiatric Center Copenhagen offers a great working environment where productive and respectful dialogue between all employees is the norm.
Psychotherapy is the most prevalent course of treatment. The job offers great opportunities for professional development through clinical conferences, internal teaching, further education, and several ongoing research projects. New employees are offered training in psychotherapy as it is the prevalent course of treatment.
Clinical functions and focus areas of the department The clinical consultant position is based at the psychotherapeutic clinic. The position consists of professional medical management, including, managing patient care pathways, providing medical input to the clinical team, and planning the individual patient care pathways in close cooperation with the interdisciplinary staff. Additionally, the consultant will supervise junior consultants’ individual patient care pathway plans, and actively promote and integrate research activities and results in treatment plans. It is expected that the consultant initiates and actively participate in various projects, including, but not limited to, implementation of relevant research results. The candidate should be able to translate insights into risk and robustness-mechanisms along with disease- and treatment strategies for patients suffering from brain disease with mental health manifestations.
The clinical consultant position is an integral part of the centre’s focus on increased integration between research and clinical treatment. Clinicians are expected to participate actively in research projects and Psychiatric Centre Copenhagen prioritise research projects based on experienced clinical challenges. The successful candidate is expected to participate in the important tasks of translating insights into risk and robustness-mechanisms along with disease- and treatment strategies for patients suffering from brain disease with mental health manifestations. The emphasis is on clinical results incorporating elements of precision medicine taking the interplay between the brain’s chemistry, function, and hormonal signals into account along with derived neurobiological and psychological effect. The activities should facilitate a general and specific strengthening of the quality of patient treatment and care. The outcomes of these activities are expected to be implemented in such a way that they contribute to the professional development of the broader group of health care professionals.
The clinical consultant is employed in a shared position between The Mental Health Services of the Capital Region and the Department of Neurology, Rigshospitalet. The clinical consultant reports to the Head of the Department at Psychiatric Center Copenhagen regarding the clinical functions and to the Head of the Neurobiology Research Unit, Rigshospitalet with regards to the research part.
The clinical consultant will also be expected to play an active role in the group of professors at Psychiatric Center Copenhagen and the Mental Health Services of the Capital Region.
The research is organized in collaboration between the clinical consultant/professor, The Mental Health Services of the Capital Region and Neurobiology Research Unit, Rigshospitalet.
Qualifications Applicants must be board-certified specialist in psychiatry.
Conditions In order to be considered, the applicant must send an application to both the Faculty (the professorship) and to the hospital (the consultancy) cf. the simultaneously advertised position of the professorship. Appointment is conditioned by the fact that the applicant obtains both positions. This also applies to the applicants who are already employed as consultants at The Mental Health Services.
Salary and conditions of employment as consultant are as agreed between the Danish Regions and the Danish Association of Medical Specialists and between the Capital Region/Region Zealand and University of Copenhagen.
As clinical professor at least 50 % of the working time will be allocated to academic tasks (e.g., research, teaching, evaluation tasks and communication with the public) in agreement with the Head of Department of Department of Clinical Medicine at the University of Copenhagen. The remaining time will be allocated for clinical work in agreement with the head of Psychiatric Center Copenhagen. The clinical professor will receive secretarial or technical support equivalent to 25 % of a full-time secretary position from the department of Psychiatric Center Copenhagen and 25% from the department of Neurology, Rigshospitalet. Additional support and details on the working conditions must be negotiated with the head of the department of Psychiatric Center Copenhagen, Mental Health Services of the Capital Region of Denmark.
