Job description
The field of ruminant nutrition belongs to the research group for Cattle Production and Nutrition which is one of the research groups of the Section for Production, Nutrition and Health. In addition to the vacant position, the research group consists of an associate professor, two assistant professors, three PhD students and two lab technicians. It works together with a large external dairy herd with robotic milking and four rumen cannulated cows. The available lab methods include in-vitro gas production, gas chromatography for fatty acids and gases, as well as a PCR lab and standard proximate analyses. The group is characterized by a very international atmosphere. The Section for Production, Nutrition and Health also includes a dairy herd health group with a professor, an assistant professor and several PhD students, a group for monogastric nutrition a group for precision livestock farming and a group for pig health.
The aim of the position is to form the basis for an increasing recognition of the biological potentials for optimizing ruminant nutrition, taking into consideration quantitative aspects of nutrition, economic aspects, animal welfare and environmental impact. The position includes teaching and research in basic and applied ruminant nutrition with special focus on dairy cattle.
The position aims at supporting and strengthening the Faculty’s strategy for sustainable dairy production in collaboration with the external dairy herd. In relation to the strategy, an important responsibility of the appointee is to maintain and develop collaboration with dairy herds in order to secure a sufficient basis for research and teaching in ruminant nutrition.
The position is linked to the animal science education and includes teaching of courses and supervision of students. The candidate should be able to contribute to and further develop teaching in the animal science study program at all levels in ruminant nutrition. The candidate should be able to attract external national or international research funding.

The tenure track assistant professor’s performance will be evaluated through annual evaluations. Furthermore, the tenure track assistant professor will be evaluated in a mid-track appraisal. After no more than six years of employment and on condition of a positive final appraisal, the tenure track assistant professor will be employed as associate professor. - Research qualifications within the area of ruminant nutrition (including feed evaluation systems and other quantitative aspects) at the level that can be achieved by satisfactorily completing a period of employment as an assistant professor/postdoc, but may also be obtained in other ways
- Teaching qualifications and pedagogical competencies
- Research-based teaching including quantitative ruminant nutrition
- Experience in securing external funding for research
The successful applicant for the position as tenure track assistant professor should be able to document:
- A PhD degree or similar qualifications within the subject area
- Research experience within the field of the position: The tenure track assistant professor must have an academic standing showing internationally competitive research, and/or have internationally recognized high potential to make a future impact.
