The University seeks to appoint a senior adviser to the Department of Veterinary and Animal Sciences to commence as soon as possible. Information on the department can be found at: https://ivh.ku.dk/english/

The position is located at Department of Veterinary and Animal Sciences that consists of nine sections. The position will be at two sections, namely Section of Animal Welfare and Disease Control and Section of Parasitology and Aquatic Pathobiology. In Section of Animal Welfare and Disease Control (AWD), the purpose is to promote disease control and animal welfare from a population- and society-oriented perspective.

The section covers three main research areas: bioethics, veterinary epidemiology and ethology. Further, the section is hosting the unit for public sector services at the department with the purpose of delivering research consultancy services, and developing relevant tools to support the Danish Veterinary and Food Administration's decision-making processes with a focus on endemic, exotic and notifiable animal diseases, including early warning for infections in mammals, poultry, and wildlife in defined and selected areas. Section for Parasitology and Aquatic Pathobiology (PAP) studies parasites and other infections in animals, including fish, and humans. The main focus is on population and infection biology, host immunity, including vaccines, parasite-induced immune-modulation, parasitic zoonoses, and control. The section currently has four research groups: Parasites and environment, Parasites, immunology and gut health, Veterinary Parasitology and The Aquatic Pathobiology Lab.

Job description
A main task is research-based government service and dissemination of research results to authorities, the industry and society in general. In addition, there is an obligation to keep up to date in a broad field of science and to carry out analyses of professionally broad issues and to communicate these in a scientifically sound manner. As part of the position, the senior advisor will be responsible for tasks covered by the staff function of the ‘Danish Veterinary Consortium ', which is the focal point for communication between the Danish Veterinary and Food Administration and the Consortium in connection with the Veterinary Public Sector Services. The function covers management of the communication flow with the Agency, including the operation of the shared mailbox, organization of work programmes, and secretariat services to the consortium management including reporting. The senior advisor is also expected to participate in teaching parasitology within the veterinary and animal science curriculum, including supervision, examinations and development of teaching material. There will also be opportunity to perform research aiming to assist in the scientific-based advice for the veterinary authorities, particularly in relation to veterinary parasitology.

The senior adviser’s responsibilities will primarily consist of:

  • Research-based public-sector consultancy
  • Obligation to share knowledge with the rest of society, including participation in public debate
  • Administrative duties covered by the staff function of the ‘Danish Veterinary Consortium '
  • Research, including publication/academic dissemination
  • Research-based teaching, including associated examination

Required qualifications
The applicant must beable to document:

  • Research qualifications at the level that can be achieved by satisfactorily completing a period of employment as an assistant professor/postdoc, but may also be obtained in other ways
  • Teaching qualifications and pedagogical competencies
  • Research-based teaching

Profile
Beside the required qualifications, we are looking for a highly motivated and enthusiastic scientist with the following competencies and experience:

  • You have an active interest in veterinary contingency services
  • Proficient communication skills and ability to work in teams
  • Excellent English skills written and spoken
  • As the job includes close contact to the National Veterinary Authorities, fluency in written and spoken Danish is required.
  • Experience with science-based consultancy service
  • Flair for administration and the processes involved, as well as a methodical and disciplined approach.
  • Good communication skills will be an advantage, and knowledge of public-sector services/collaboration between research and government agencies and institutions will be an asset.


Terms of employment
Salary and other terms and conditions of appointment are set in accordance with the Agreement between the Ministry of Finance and AC (Danish Confederation of Professional Associations) or other relevant professional organisations.

The position is covered by the Job Structure for Academic Staff at Universities 2020.
