The Department of Geosciences and Natural Resource Management, University of Copenhagen, invites applications for a position as Teaching Associate Professor in landscape architecture and urban design. The position is placed within the research group: ‘Landscape Architecture and Urbanism’ at the Section for Landscape Architecture and Planning: Design.

The candidate will become part of a dynamic teaching team that approaches the field of landscape architecture and urban design from a humanities and design centered perspective.

The focus of this position is on design processes and practices within landscape architecture, and urban design including its theories and methodologies with special focus on spatial solutions to the current day complex and intertwined challenges of climate change, loss of biodiversity, equality and diversity.

The candidate will teach design studio courses at both bachelor and master level and take on individual supervision for bachelor projects, master theses in the landscape architecture program.

The teaching associate professor’s duties will primarily include teaching which is research-based and includes associated examination obligations within the landscape architecture programs. To a limited extent, the position may also include other duties.

Qualifications
The teaching associate professor must have a design education in landscape architecture, architecture or urban design with strong foundation in both academia and design practice. The applicant must be able to document his/her/their abilities to teach concrete project development at the drawing board and the theories and methodologies of the discipline at all levels from first year to master’s level, and document formal pedagogical training. The applicant should take interest in developing the field through teaching and related activities. And finally, the candidate must indicate the capacity to build up and develop teaching programmes including to build national and international teaching networks.

In addition, we prefer candidates with as many of the following competences as possible:
• Extensive and documented teaching qualifications and teaching experience.
• Extended knowledge of national and international landscape architectural history
• Extended knowledge of Danish and European 20th century landscape architecture
• Extended knowledge of Danish and Nordic conditions in terms of legislation, climate, and culture (postwar architectural production is preferred )
• High knowledge and experience with planting design
• Extended experience with synthesizing various kinds of knowledge into spatially grounded projects
• Extended experience with co-teaching – also across scientific fields
• Extensive experience in teaching, organising and managing design studios bringing in evidence of excellent standard of teaching performance.
• Excellent oral communication and presentation skills, with sufficiently developed Danish or Scandinavian and English Language skills to deliver BSc (taught in Danish) and MSc education (taught in English)

Applicants are required to have university level teaching experience, documented teaching competencies and must be able to explain and reflect upon own teaching practice and portfolio. Formal pedagogical training or supervision equivalent to the University of Copenhagen teacher training programme for assistant professors is required.

Duties thus include teaching, supervision, preparation and participation in examinations, and other tasks requested by the Department. The applicant is allocated app 15% of their time to do own research, development of the field, administrative work, assessment tasks, and grant applications.

Assessment of applicants will primarily consider their level of documented teaching qualifications and successful teaching experiences at an international level, including contributions to developments in their field. Managerial and out-reach qualifications of applicants will also be considered.

Terms of appointment and payment accord to the agreement between the Danish Ministry of Taxation and The Danish Confederation of Professional Associations on Academics in the State. Negotiation for salary supplement is possible.
