The University seeks to appoint an associate professor or an assistant professor to the Department of Odontology to commence as soon as possible.

Job description
The section for Orthodontics is responsible for conducting courses in orthodontics at the dentistry programme. The courses are given during the 1st-3rd semesters of the Master programme and comprise theory as well as clinical exercises and patient treatment.

The curriculum consists of three basis courses that cover orthodontic diagnostics including craniofacial development and skeletal maturation, treatment principles including patient selection criteria according to the national guidelines and orthodontic treatment and retention. Furthermore, the exercises include orthodontic treatment on less complicated patients.

Research within the field includes craniofacial growth and development, the cervical spine, orofacial function and respiration and their significance for orthodontic diagnostics and treatment. Another area of research is dental sleep medicine and 3D diagnostics of the craniofacial skeleton, the cervical spine and the upper airways.

Results are communicated nationally and internationally and the section provides advice regarding treatment to dentists and other medical professionals in Denmark and abroad.

The Section for Orthodontics has a close collaboration with the Postgraduate Programme in Orthodontics, also located at the Department of Odontology.

The associate professor’s responsibilities will primarily consist of:

  • Research, including publication/academic dissemination
  • Research-based teaching, including associated examination
  • Research leadership, including guidance and supervision of researchers
  • Obligation to share knowledge with the rest of society, including participation in public debate
  • Academic assessments

The assistant professor’s responsibilities will primarily consist of:

  • Research, including publication/academic dissemination
  • Research-based teaching
  • Research leadership, including guidance and supervision of researchers
  • Sharing knowledge with society
  • Participation in formal pedagogical training program for assistant professors

Required qualifications
The successful associate professor should be able to document:

  • A Specialist degree in Orthodontics and PhD degree (or equivalent)
  • Research qualifications at the level that can be achieved by satisfactorily completing a period of employment as an assistant professor/postdoc, but may also be obtained in other ways
  • Teaching qualifications and pedagogical competencies
  • Research-based teaching.

The successful assistant professor should be able to document:

  • A Specialist degree in Orthodontics and PhD degree (or equivalent)
  • Research qualifications at the level that can be achieved by satisfactorily completing a period of employment as an PhD/postdoc
  • Teaching qualifications and pedagogical competencies
  • Research-based teaching

The associate professor/assistant professor is also required to possess good interpersonal and communicative skills.

Authorisation as health care professional
The candidate is expected to have obtained the Danish authorisation and permission to work independently as a specialist in orthodontics, or to obtain this authorisation prior to employment date. Language
If the candidate does not master Danish (alternatively Swedish or Norwegian), it is a requirement that a sufficient level (oral and written) of Danish is obtained during the first 2 years of employment. All patient records must be kept in Danish, and Danish is the official language of instruction in the Graduate Programme in Dentistry and the Postgraduate Programme in Orthodontics.

The candidate will be allowed the time required for his/her language studies. Remuneration of expenses for language courses may be negotiated.

Terms of employment
The associate professor position is permanent.

The assistant professor position is fixed-termed to 3 years.

Salary and other terms and conditions of appointment are set in accordance with the Agreement between the Ministry of Finance and AC (Danish Confederation of Professional Associations) or other relevant professional organisations.

The position is covered by the Job Structure for Academic Staff at Universities 2020.

Application procedure
After the expiry of the deadline for applications, the authorized recruitment manager selects applicants for assessment on the advice of the Appointments Committee. The Dean then appoints an expert assessment committee in order to make an assessment of the selected applicants for the specific post. Selected applicants are notified of the composition of the committee and each applicant has the opportunity to comment on the part of the assessment that relates to the applicant him/herself.
