The University of Copenhagen seeks to appoint an Associate Professor of Functional Proteomics (fixed-term 3 years) to the Novo Nordisk Foundation Center for Basic Metabolic Research to commence August 1, 2022, or after agreement.

The Novo Nordisk Foundation Center for Basic Metabolic Research’s vision is to strengthen interdisciplinary research that transforms our basic understanding of the mechanisms that underlie metabolic health and disease, and to accelerate this knowledge towards new prevention and treatment strategies. We were established in 2010, and in 2017, we moved into new laboratories, offices and meeting rooms in the Maersk Tower www.maersktower.ku.dk.

The Center offers a supportive and vibrant scientific community, and the candidate should possess the ability to work collaboratively with other scientists and the scholarly qualities required for supervising graduate students.

Six overall criteria apply for Associate Professor appointments at the University of Copenhagen. The six criteria (research, teaching, societal impact, organisational contribution, external funding and leadership) are considered a framework for the overall assessment of candidates. Terms of employment
The Associate Professor position is a full-time position for 3 years. Starting date is August 1, 2022, or after agreement.
Salary and other terms and conditions of appointment are set in accordance with the Agreement between the Ministry of Finance and AC (Danish Confederation of Professional Associations) or other relevant professional organisations.
The position is covered by the Job Structure for Academic Staff at Universities 2020.

Job description
The applicant shall be heading a research group and will be expected to conduct research within functional proteomics, including:
- Applying high-resolution mass spectrometry-based protein profiling techniques in the field of metabolism
- Investigating changes in protein dynamic with alteration in diet and/exercise, and describing the functional relevance
- Performing molecular studies of mechanisms underpinning obesity and type 2 diabetes
- Investigating exercise-induced secreted factors and their role in inter-organ communication.
- Investigating cell signaling and post-translational modification in the context of diabetes and exercise biology
The Associate Professor’s responsibilities will primarily consist of:
- Research, including publication/academic dissemination
- Research-based teaching, including associated examination
- Research leadership, including guidance and supervision of researchers
- Obligation to share knowledge with the rest of society, including participation in public debate
- Academic assessments
