Job description
In considering applications for the associate professorship, the main emphasis will be on the applicant´s ability to document a high level of original scientific work on an international level within the area of virology and molecular immunology. Emphasis will be placed on fostering of local, national, and international collaborative studies that involve associated fields. Here, the synergy with translational research at Copenhagen University Hospital, Hvidovre, is of particular importance, and it is essential that the applicant has experience in basic and translational studies performed in collaboration with clinicians.
The focus of research is immune cell exhaustion and recovery in response to human viral infections with a special focus on original research in T-cell immunology, and the potential of viral adaptation to those immune responses by the study of virus evolution and how that affect disease progression and immune status. This topic will be examined by advanced transcriptomics and sequencing approaches that can be targeted to the virus specific immune cells and the virus itself. Thus, it is expected that the candidate has a strong background in studies of hepatitis C virus, hepatitis B virus, SARS-CoV-2, and related viruses, and has ambitions to drive an innovative approach using state-of-the-art methodology to uncover immune cell function and possible exhaustion in animal models and infected patients with acute and chronic viral infections in addition to advanced viral sequencing approaches. Applicant experience in studies involving virology, virus evolution, antiviral treatment, and immunology methods based on next generation sequencing and bioinformatics is highly desirable.
Academically, the candidate will be expected to contribute to teaching in the course of “Immunology and Microbiology” at the Master of Science of Human Biology, “The Immune Response to Infection” at the Master of Science in Immunology and Inflammation, and “Medical Microbiology” at the Medicine bachelor education. The candidate is furthermore expected to supervise and mentor bachelor, master, and PhD students in relation to their research activities.
The associate professor’s responsibilities will primarily consist of:
