The Department of Cross-Cultural and Regional Studies at the University of Copenhagen is seeking an applicant for a 3-year external lecturer position. The department works with languages, history, society and culture primarily in the world outside Western Europe and North America. Cross-cultural competence and knowledge about the complexity in the world’s societies is very important for the department’s work in Denmark and the wider globalized world – politically, socially, economically and culturally. The teaching programme Japan Studies encompasses both UCPH students and students from Copenhagen Business School (CBS). The advertised position will primarily cover a course on Japanese society and politics for CBS students. It is 2-3 teaching hours per week for 14 weeks in spring semesters. The topics to be covered are central aspects of Japanese politics, economy and society, including relevant theories, methods and debates. The course is taught together with 1-2 colleagues, so the students will receive 6 weekly hours of teaching, the 3-4 hours that are not covered by the applicant for this position will be used to work with the course topics in Japanese. The part this position covers is taught in English.

Qualifications
Applicants must have completed a relevant Master degree and furthermore demonstrate thorough knowledge of Japanese society and language. The applicant must master English in speaking and writing as the teaching is in English. Teaching experience at university level will be an advantage.

Salary and contract terms
The hiring period will be February 1st 2024 through January 31st 2027.
Salary will be determined by the current agreement between the Ministry of Finance and AC. The position falls under the following guidelines (in Danish only):’Cirkulære om eksterne lektorer ved Universiteter m.fl. under Undervisningsministeriet’
Specific number of teaching hours is determined before each semester and the salary is 286,33 kr. per hour. Preparation for teaching is 2½ per teaching hour.
A CV, degree certificate and documentation for professional and teaching experience should be attached to the application.

To fill the position you must have:
- High-level practical experience at a high level, which has not been gained through academic employment with a university, or
- Employment in an academic principal position with another university (e.g. as assistant professor/researcher, associate professor/senior researcher, or professor/professor with special responsibilities).
- A part-time lecturer who is employed on the merits of his or her relevant practical experience must possess in-depth, up-to-date knowledge of the possible applications of the subject/academic discipline. This knowledge is/has been acquired through employment within the subject/academic discipline.
- Employment as part-time lecturer presupposes that teaching qualifications are included in the assessment of applicants for an external associate professor.
