The Department of Design, Media and Educational Science, University of Southern Denmark, Faculty of Humanities, invites applications for a position as Associate Professor within Digital Humanities and Humanistic eScience methods. The position is placed at the University’s Kolding campus and is available from May 1st 2024 or as soon as possible thereafter.
The Department of Design, Media and Educational Science is a humanistic department with research in a wide spectrum of areas, from Business Language, Design, Education Sciences, Information Studies, Library Science, Upper Secondary Didactics, Media Science, Organisational Communication, Philosophy, Tourism and Experience Economy, and Web Communication. Of particular relevance for the position are the research activities within informatics, Digital Humanities, eScience, computational thinking, designs for learning with ICT, web communication and web technologies.
The selected applicant is expected to strengthen the department’s profile within Digital Humanities and Humanistic eScience methods. Relevant profiles include, but are not limited to, research backgrounds in:
• Learning analytics
• Text mining and text data analytics
• Visualization of historical artefacts and Digital Twins analyses
• Data visualization within Humanistic disciplines
• Computational thinking
• AI in the humanities
Further, the selected applicant is expected to have an interdisciplinary orientation, and to participate actively in the department’s Center for Learning Computational Thinking. Participation in this Center will include engagement in Digital Humanities’ research and teaching utilizing Humanistic eScience methods, with researchers and in teaching across the Faculty of Humanities. It will also include collaboration with the eScience Center at the Department of Mathematics and Computer Science.
The applicant is expected to have qualifications within Digital Humanities and Humanistic eScience methods, for example within one or more of the profile areas mentioned above. Skills in utilizing ICT for visualization of data within the Humanities is also expected. Programming skills are welcomed but not required.
Applicants must document:
• Research at international scientific level
• Pedagogical skills and teaching experience
The position involves, among other tasks:
• participation in developing the field of Digital Humanities across the Faculty of Humanities
• participation in advancing the utilization of Humanistic eScience methods across the Faculty of Humanities
• teaching, particularly within the areas of eScience, Digital Humanities and computational thinking
• supervision of student projects within web communication, informatics, eScience, Digital Humanities, and computational thinking
• active participation in the department’s ongoing research activities, in particular the Center for Learning Computational Thinking, including collaboration with the eScience Center
• contributing to new research perspectives within the areas of Digital Humanities and Humanistic eScience methods
The applicant is expected to have a Ph.D. within the fields of Informatics, eScience, Digital Humanities, Computational Thinking, Learning Analytics, AI in the humanities, or a related field.

Application, salary and conditions of employment, etc.The successful applicant will be employed in accordance with the agreement between the Ministry of Finance and AC (the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations), Cirkulære om overenskomst for Akademikere i staten 2019 (the document only exists in Danish).
If the successful applicant has not documented teaching experience corresponding to assistant professor level, the applicant will be employed on trial for the first 18 months.
