We are offering an associate professor position in Coastal and Marine Food Web Ecology. This position is available at the Department of Biology at the University of Southern Denmark (SDU), Odense and is associated with the Ecology Research Group.
Starting date: 1 January 2022 (or as negotiated).
Description of the Position:
We are looking for a colleague to establish and lead a group that can promote experimental research in coastal and marine ecosystems. This is expected to be achieved through active pursuit and acquisition of independent and external research funding. Through this position the department wants to further strengthen research in coastal and marine food web ecology, focusing also on nature-based solutions and innovation aspects.
In the position, collaboration with the Marine Research Centre in Kerteminde will be encouraged. We also encourage the candidate to collaborate with other research groups at the Department of Biology, the Faculty of Science, and SDU in general, together with international collaboration.
This position has teaching duties related to the Biology programme (BSc and MSc), including the supervision of project, Bachelor, MSc and PhD students. Course teaching is expected for example in marine and coastal ecology, general ecology and zoology. Teaching related to other educational programmes (e.g. climate adaptation) at the department may also be possible.

About you:
- You have a PhD in Marine Ecology, Marine Biology, Biological Oceanography or similar with research expertise in the above-mentioned areas.
- Candidates with research expertise in gelatinous zooplankton ecology and their role in marine communities are particularly encouraged to apply.
- You have a substantial research and publication track record in coastal or marine food web ecology or related areas.
- You have significant experience in acquiring external, including EU, funding. This will be necessary to participate in national and international collaborations on the sustainable use of coastal and marine ecosystems.
- You have documented teaching and student supervision experience. The candidate will be expected to possess teaching and pedagogical qualifications corresponding to those obtained as an associate professor which should be documented in a teaching portfolio or similar document.
