You will work closely with colleagues from many disciplines and have good opportunities for interdisciplinary research collaboration. The unit is quick to embrace new initiatives in education and research.

Sociology offers undergraduate, graduate and postgraduate studies. It includes a Bachelor’s programme in the social sciences: The Social Analysis Study Programme, and a Master’s (120 credits) programme: Critical Social Analysis. We have approximately 230 full-year and full-time students annually. The unit comprises a staff of 20, working with research, education, and external contacts. It is part of several national and international partnerships in education and research.

Research at the unit is primarily specialised in: 1. Power and resistance, 2. Personal life, emotions, and the organisation of everyday life, and 3. Sociology of ageing. We are open to the expansion and development of our research, including new research areas. The unit offers a PhD programme in Sociology, where some students are also part of the CRS research centre at Karlstad University.

Sociology is part of a multidisciplinary department that also includes Social Work, Psychology, and Gender Studies.

Other tasks include teaching, supervision, examinations, course coordination, and course development, as well as active participation in developing the unit, department, and faculty with regard to teaching, research, and community collaboration. You are expected to play an active role in the unit’s research, conduct your own research, and help secure external fund. Teaching undergraduates should make up no less than 20% of the position. Doctoral supervision and instruction may be required. Duties may also include teaching at other study programmes, such as Social Work, Psychology, and teacher education.
