Researcher - Statistician Position in Suicide Prevention Research

We invite applications for a fulltime position as Statistician at the National Centre for Suicide Research and Prevention (NSSF). The position is set for a period of two years with possible extension.

The NSSF, established in 1996, is part of the Institute of Clinical Medicine, Division of Mental Health and Addiction at the University of Oslo. The centre’s main activities are clinical and epidemiological research, education and dissemination of knowledge. The centre has an active cooperation with similar research centers internationally. The centre also provides several types of psychotherapist training, offers courses in clinical suicidology, and operates several websites and a peer-reviewed journal “Suicidologi”. The position is established in concordance of the center’s strategy of strengthening research on suicide and self-harm using data from Norwegian population registers and clinical databases.

Job description

We are looking for a motivated and competent candidate interested in statistical applications in clinical and population studies on suicide and self-harm. The candidate will primarily work with the group for register-based research and join the team for data management, preparation and analysis. The candidate is also expected to provide statistical advice and assistance for clinical studies at the center, contributing to data analysis and result presentation.

Qualifications

Qualifications and requirements for the position are:

  • Master’s degree in Statistics/Biostatistics or equivalent
  • Good knowledge about medical research design and statistical methods beyond the basic level
  • Insight and hands-on experience in use of large scale population or clinical data
  • Experience of using statistical packages such as SAS, R, Python or Stata
  • Experience from analyzing data for research projects in clinical psychology, psychiatry or suicidology considered as an advantage.
  • Curiosity, creativity, cooperativeness and interest in research
  • Good command of English, and good command of Norwegian or a Scandinavian language

The candidate is expected to work efficiently both independently and as a team player, and to take an active part in the daily activities at the center.
