If you are interested in a research career working with reservoir geophysics aiming at exploration and characterization of CO2 storage reservoirs, a 3-year PhD position at the Geological Survey of Denmark and Greenland (GEUS) might be of interest. The position commence August 15th, 2021, or as soon as possible thereafter.

Project description In this interdisciplinary PhD project, we want to investigate the possibilities for future CO2 storage in offshore Neogene sands. The thickness, distribution and reservoir quality of these sands are poorly outlined and has not been throughtly studied previously. Small thicknesses and pinch out in certain areas make it challenging to properly resolve these sands as they can be below the vertical seismic resolution. We propose to apply quantitative interpretation tools on existing seismic data in the Danish Central Graben to investigate these problems. An important part of this work will be to study the feasibility for quantitative seismic methods that can possibly better resolve the Neogene sands and their thicknesses, such as seismic attribute and inversion analysis, for a given dataset. Moreover, core samples from boreholes can also be integrated into the study focusing on the sedimentological and petrophysical properties of the Neogene sands. Modern softwares are available for seismic processing and quantitative interpretation (e.g. Pre Stack Pro, Hampson-Russell, Petrel, ProMax, Reveal).
