For our Blade Structural Design Department, we are looking for a highly skilled Early Stage Researcher. The Blade Structural Design Department works on cutting edge technology in an international environment. The engineer will work on modelling and validating damage models within the framework of the Marie Sklodowska-Curie Innovative Training Network ‘DyVirt’ (Dyvirt-etn.com).The job will expose the researcher to a wide range of tasks allowing personal and technical growth and achieving a deep understanding of wind turbine blade structures. The Blade Structural Design Department is responsible for the design of new offshore blades, material qualification, developing new technologies and handling warranty cases.

How to contribute to our vision

As an Early Stage Researcher (ESR), you will develop state-of-the art research in the field of composite damage modelling. During the 2-year project, you will be part of the DyVirt training network participating sharing knowledge with 13 other ESR, participating in training and networking events as well as summer schools. As part of your work you will:

  • Develop new micro/macro scale models of the evolution of composite damage in turbine blades
  • Develop V&V methods for validating the damage models using coupon and substructure testing
  • Validate structural health monitoring, diagnostic and prognostic systems based on data from wind turbine blades
  • Proactively maintain interfaces with other young researchers within the program and Siemens Gamesa
  • Proactively maintain interfaces in both Loads and Control and the Blade module

What you need to make a difference

Passion for renewable energy and a sense for the importance to lead the change. We are also looking for

  • A Master of Science degree in Mechanical or Aeronautical Engineering and a solid understanding of the field of composites and damage modelling.
  • A candidate that satisfies the mobility requirements of the Marie Sklodowska-Curie framework, i.e. not have lived in the country of the host organization for more than 12 months in the last 3 years.
  • An early stage researcher within the first 4 years of your research career.

Excellent English skills both orally and in writing are a must in the international team, and it is of highest importance that you are able to communicate your results in a clear and convincing manner. Furthermore, you have a structured approach to your work, can handle multiple assignments simultaneously without losing overview and you are driving your work independently.
