With the X1 CBCT unit, 3Shape brought exciting and radical innovations to the field of dental radiology. To further develop and deploy the X1 CBCT unit globally, we are currently restructuring our organization around the product. Towards that end, we need skilled people within the mechanical engineering domain.

Born out of one of the most successful Danish startup companies in recent years, we are a small team dedicated to bringing the X1 CBCT unit to the commercial position it rightfully deserves. We aim to double our team size from 6 today over the next year or so. Most importantly, we are locked into the mission of bringing CBCT scanning to the next level by enabling true motion correction and high fidelity scanning to clinics across the world.

The Job

You will have a key role in the structural and functional mechanical design of the scanner. The product is fundamentally there, but to realize an efficient and cost-effective manufacturing flow, several changes to the design must be implemented. Thus, your general responsibility lies within the following areas:

  • Design and prototyping in CAD (SolidWorks)
  • Design for manufacturing, including technology selection and evaluation
  • Analysis of optimum product structure and iterative alignment to new manufacturing flows
  • Product data and documentation management
  • Design change control.

The position may well evolve according to the wishes and ambitions of the successful candidate. You should also expect tasks somewhat outside your field of expertise – one of the wonders of joining us this early. Finally, being a participant in activities across country borders, we expect a certain amount of travel, on the order of 20 days per year.

Your Profile

The ideal candidate will possess most of the following qualifications:

  • Engineering degree at M.Sc level in precision mechanics, mechatronics, or similar
  • Experience with mixed technology projects, covering the full product lifecycle from initial concept and design through to production, maintenance, and decommissioning
  • Excellent communication and documentation skills - English at a business level, and generally comfortable in an international atmosphere
  • Excellent at creating and maintaining cross-functional working relationships
  • Some understanding of the medical imaging product domain, e.g Dental X-ray or CT scanning devices
  • Some familiarity with the main standards governing medical devices, i.e. ISO13485/14971, 60601 etc.

Most importantly, you are passionate about providing high-quality and innovative solutions and enthusiastic about the possibility of working with skilled colleagues across the organization to influence the future of dental imaging.
