We are looking for a new Functional Lead to Nacelle Front, who can lead and inspire 45 engineers to ensure that Vestas is frontrunner within Nacelle Front engineering.

In the Nacelle Front Department, we are accountable for the design and certification of large load carrying structural components, from the early concept study phases through to the final specification for production. Additionally, we are always looking ahead to verify new technologies, which can be implemented into future projects. You will become part of a highly professional environment with a strong technical commitment.

Responsibilities
As a Function Lead, you will be accountable for the design of complex mechanical design projects from the initial concept through to the final delivery. You therefore will need to have a strong mechanical design background along with clear leadership and stakeholder management skills.

You will have the overall design accountability for Nacelle Front, which includes the yaw building block along with large cast iron components, such as the base frame. To be successful in this role you will need to be a systems thinker, who can maintain a clear understanding of both the functional and non-functional requirements of your area and the wider interfaces to other WTG sub systems and building blocks.

  • Drive the creation and documentation of sub system design requirements for various module variants and WTG platforms to produce efficient designs.
  • You must build value stream understanding within your functional area.
  • Set the quality standard for your functional area designs via clear process and guidelines in the local team as well as the global design centers in Portugal and India.
  • Drive improvements and be the initiator for ideas to make the workplace more efficient.
  • Produce and maintain a clear roadmap of technologies for your functional area to meet levelised cost of energy reduction targets. Be a scout, bring in the latest technology to Vestas via your network.
  • Be a mentor and coach for others in your functional area to grow technical competence.
  • Work with Line Management and project management to ensure that the right competences are available at the right time.

Qualifications

  • A master’s degree in mechanical, electromechanical or structural engineering
  • A solid experience of leading the design of complex mechanical systems, preferably 5 years plus experience in the wind industry
  • Experience of leading teams in a matrix organisation i.e. without disciplinary responsibility
  • Systems engineering exposure/training (INCOSE) is desirable
  • An understanding of Project management principles. PRINCE 2 or agile PM training desirable

Competencies

  • An excellent team player with the ability to work well with others at all levels of the organisation
  • Ability to deliver through delegation in challenging project environments
  • Solid understanding of finite element principles are software i.e. Ansys
  • Able to show a high level of energy, persistence and proactivity in tackling complex technical issues
  • Excellent stakeholder management skills and the ability to build relationships with key members of the value-stream
  • Coaching and mentoring principles
  • At ease with MS Office Tools (Excel, Powerpoint, Word)

Additional information
Primary work location: Aarhus, Denmark.
This position requires approximately 10-15 days of travel per year.
