Help us replace agricultural toxins with sustainable pheromones
The company
BioPhero is a biotechnology start-up dedicated to making affordable, safe insecticide replacements. Our mission is to lead the global transition towards sustainable agriculture, where safe pheromone-based products become the primary method for pest control. BioPhero was founded in 2016 as a spin-out from the Technical University of Denmark (DTU), and is backed by strong investors: Novo Holdings, Syngenta Ventures, FMC and DCVC. We are currently 27 employees, centrally located in Copenhagen (Østerbro). The combination of strong market demand for pheromones, an excellent sustainability profile and the potential of our production technology has earned BioPhero a spot in Labiotech’s list of top-20 biotech companies in the EU, and we have established a credible reputation on the global scene already.

The position
As a fermentation assistant you will be part of the fermentation team, and your main daily task will be operation of the benchtop-scale bioreactors. This includes experimental planning and preparations, media and solutions preparations, programming and operating the fermenters from startup to cleanup, maintenance, sampling, sample preparation and analyses, process and analytic documentation. The work is highly interdisciplinary and carried out in collaboration with the rest of the fermentation team, the strain development team and the chemists. While we have established routines, workdays are varied with many exciting activities, leaving plenty of room for good ideas and practical skills.
We have an inspiring and positive work environment characterised by enthusiasm and a go-ahead and can-do attitude, which we want you to thrive in and contribute to. Some travel days must be considered, especially in connection with tests with external partners in the EU. There may also be a need to supervise tasks outside normal working hours, but we are good at planning.

- As we work in an international environment, you are used to communicating in English, both orally and in written form.
- You have a science or engineering MSc degree in fermentation, biotechnology, bioengineering, or have similar experience.
- We expect you to have passion for and experience with benchtop-scale bioreactors from academia or industry and have interest and flair for both the technical and the operational tasks.
- You are practical with a high-throughput mentality and happy to work with your hands and your mind.
- As a person, you are independent, welcoming and flexible, and you will thrive in a team where we work hard but also have fun.
- You are good at planning, systematic and work with a focus on safety.
