The position as Senior Advisor will be in the newly established section on Business Models & Finance, which seeks to support developing and emerging economies by pursuing work in key areas, such as supporting early stage and mid-stage project/investment preparation, building up of partnerships, conducting technical and financial pre-feasibility and feasibility studies. It also develops financial architecture concepts and models for implementation and replication, all of it to bridge the existing gaps preventing or slowing down green investment in countries and cities. The section represents a consolidation and an expansion of UDPs areas of engagement from planning, training and capacity building towards working more directly with business models, the private sector and financial institutions.
Currently, we are seeking to recruit a senior adviser in climate change finance to join a team of 12 colleagues for an initially 2-year position. The successful candidate will primarily contribute to implementing and expanding our work related to finance. This includes both macro- and micro economics and finance aspects, and both strategic work on finance, as well practical financial feasibility analysis of individual investments, e.g. engineering of financial solutions.

We are looking for a highly motivated and experienced team player who possesses strong knowledge and expertise in the climate change and development area and who meets the following criteria:
Language
The working language at UDP is English. Working proficiency in Spanish and/or French is a strong asset.

The successful candidate will be employed in a full-time position according to the collective agreement with the Confederation of Professional Associations. The position is initially for 2 years.
The place of work is the UN City based in Copenhagen, Denmark.

The successful candidate is expected to:
- Contribute to the implementation of projects aiming to develop business models for replication, both within mitigation and adaptation.
- Generate new ideas and stimulate innovative thinking and approaches to addressing climate challenges in an economically and financially viable manner in a developing country context;
- Initiate new strategic partnerships with financial institutions and private sector entities;
- Support the development of practical guidelines and tools and dissemination of publications related to finance;
- Contribute to strengthen the section's and UDP's work with qualitative and quantitative methods, processes, tools and software;
- Synthesize, analyze, and document experience and evidence and contribute to country-level learning on finance solutions;
- Initiate, contribute to, and/or lead resource mobilization activities, including project concept development and preparation of project proposals;
- Contribute to high-impact publications, including briefs and reports
- Support and ensure the technical rigor of complex analytical and advisory services;
- Cultivate and maintain effective international networks and partnerships with country partners, partner agencies, finance institutions and the private sector;
- Represent UNEP DTU Partnership and the section at expert meetings, regional consultations, workshops, and seminars.
Qualifcations
We are looking for a highly motivated and experienced team player who possesses strong knowledge and expertise in the climate change and development area and who meets the following criteria:
- A master degree in economics, development studies or other relevant field;
- Relevant practical experience with climate finance, from macro to micro economics/finance, meaning both overall political economy and strategic climate finance aspects, as well as financial feasibility analysis and solutions in individual climate projects.
- Solid knowledge and experience with/from different types of finance, grants, loans, equity, guarantees, as well as financial structuring, and public-private and "blended" finance solutions.
- Good understanding of the finance scene, the variety of institutions e.g. development finance, climate finance, private finance etc. Strong international network - and experience from working/cooperating with the financial and private sector (small and medium size enterprises as well as multinationals), ideally in developing country context.
- Experience with programme/project development, implementation, and communication in co-operation with development agencies, finance institutions, and developing country institutions and experts;
- Good track record with teamwork and an ability to produce high-quality results and outputs under pressure with minimal supervision;
- Demonstrated excellent writing, communication, and presentation skills in English.
