We are recruiting a People Director, responsible for the recruitment, wellbeing, development, onboarding and retention of office staff, international mobile staff and volunteers connected to the Danish office.

Doctors without Borders in Denmark’s (MSF Denmark’s) purpose is to provide resources (human resources as well as financial resources) to support emergency medical aid and to speak out about injustices and insist on attention from media, politicians, and the Danish population when it benefits the lives of our patients.

MSF Denmark has over 50 very dedicated employees and office volunteers, who work to support this purpose and our work in global emergencies. For the office to deliver our purpose, we are dependent on our employees and their continued well-being, learning, development, and growth.

We are therefore looking for a strong candidate as our new People Director to lead the further implementation and strengthening of the systems and culture around our employees, around our mobile international staff and around our volunteers.


We are looking for:


A person who can act as a role model, and supports our aim to strengthen MSF Denmark’s people’s leadership in being:

  • Understanding of the individual and team needs (empathic)
  • Empowering and strengthening the individual and the team competencies
  • Inclusive in the decision-making processes whilst able to take difficult decisions when needed
  • Able and encouraging to lead and work autonomously, by ensuring a high level of knowledge regarding our overall strategy and our values.

  • Visionary and able to rally the cause i.e., subscribing to the common vision
  • Displaying a high level of trust in colleagues

As our People Director, you subscribe to putting development of people and development of new Learning & Development areas at the centre. You also play an active role in MSF Denmark’s efforts to increase equity, diversity and inclusiveness. We would like you to become a strong and relevant voice in the international movement, supporting the new international HR strategy and the transformation connected to it, people management, and transversality.

You speak English and maybe also Danish and have consolidated experience with people leadership positions in an international organization as well as previous experience with Learning and Development. Knowledge of the Danish labour law is, of course, an asset but not an absolute requirement.

You can expect:


To be a part of a highly motivated and well-functioning management team, where we aim to work truly transversal, with a strong focus on something we call the “One-office” mindset. Why? Because we have learned that sharing competencies and discussing how we use our resources on an overall level, rather than on a departmental level, creates a high degree of efficiency in everything we do. Your department consist of 5-6 strong professionals, responsible for the full palette of HR tasks, such as recruitment, development, administration, and payroll. A dedicated group of volunteers work with especially assigned tasks.

Your base will be in our office at Strandlodsvej, Copenhagen S, but as we work with a very high degree of flexibility, we welcome applicants from different areas. Close vicinity of Copenhagen is not a top priority.
