Læger uden Grænser/Médecins Sans Frontières Denmark (MSF) in Denmark is looking for a student assistant (15 hours a week) with strong analytical skills and passion for humanitarian and global health agendas. The student assistant will be based in MSF Denmark’s Advocacy and Analysis Unit (AAU) and work with a team of 9 staff members and volunteers to advocate for humanitarian and medical agendas.
The student assistant will be responsible for a range of activities that contribute to MSF’s advocacy work in a Danish context. The tasks will involve analysis and research on key humanitarian and global health agendas, such as drafting briefing papers.
In addition to analytical work, the tasks will include organizing public outreach and events to increase awareness about MSF’s humanitarian and medical priorities amongst different audiences in Denmark, as well as supporting internal trainings of MSF field staff.
The student will work closely with team members in the MSF Denmark Advocacy and Analysis Unit, and both independently lead as well as support a broad range of humanitarian medical agendas. Tasks typically lie within the following categories:

Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) is a private, international humanitarian organization that provides emergency medical assistance to victims of conflict and disasters in more than 72 countries. MSF provides assistance to populations in distress, to victims of man-made or natural disasters, and to victims of armed conflicts without any discrimination in relation to religion, ethnic or political affiliation. MSF is a completely neutral and impartial organization, which, according to the universal medical ethics and the right to humanitarian aid, claims full and unhindered freedom to carry out its work. In addition to emergency medical care, MSF talks about the suffering, abuse, and distress that our staff are witnessing.
The student assistant will be responsible for a range of activities that contribute to MSF’s advocacy work in a Danish context. The tasks will involve analysis and research on key humanitarian and global health agendas, such as drafting briefing papers.

Core responsibilities and tasks
The student will work closely with team members in the MSF Denmark Advocacy and Analysis Unit, and both independently lead as well as support a broad range of humanitarian medical agendas. Tasks typically lie within the following categories:
Support analysis and advocacy activities, in particular produce written work
- Produce well-researched talking points, reports, background papers, and analytical briefings on different humanitarian medical topics and thematic advocacy areas, including access to medicines in low-income countries, mental health and survivors of violence, sexual and reproductive health, planetary health, and international humanitarian law.
- Stay informed about Danish political debates for potential engagement and opportunities for MSF Denmark.
- Stay informed about MSF’s international humanitarian and medical priorities and the humanitarian contexts in different emergency situations and countries.
- Participate in developing, implementing, and evaluating MSF advocacy strategies and plans.
Coordinate public outreach and engagement initiatives
- Support implementation of events, panel discussions, and initiatives where MSF Denmark can raise awareness on key humanitarian, medical priorities and advocate and encourage change and action.
- Produce advocacy-related outreach material and event toolkits for MSF Denmark’s 5 volunteer groups and other stakeholders in cooperation with MSF volunteer coordinators.
Support MSF Denmark and MSF’s Operational Centre in Brussels in digital trainings
- Support the roll-out of MSF’s internal training on treatment of “Survivors of Violence” with a team of experts in MSF and other partner organizations.
- Support to course participants and technical logistics in the digital course format.
- Support various tasks, such as evaluation and future orientations.
The student assistant will also be expected to
- Contribute to implementation of the MSF Denmark Strategic Orientations as well as the AAU strategy 2021- 2023 in cooperation with AAU team members.
- Contribute actively to the positive team dynamic/spirit and problem solving as an integrated team member in the AAU and MSF Denmark.
- Support colleagues with tasks or in times of need of extra hands.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree completed or in the final part of the bachelor’s degree, in relevant study field such as but not limited to, Global Health, Political Science, Anthropology, Human Rights, Development Studies, Social Science, or Medicine.
- Prior experience in working with or studying humanitarian or global health agendas.
- NGO or volunteer experience is an advantage, but not required.
Experiences and Competences
- Insight into humanitarian principles.
- Strong analytical skills and ability to produce well-written documents in Danish and English.
- Collaborative skills and passion about working with many different stakeholders and ability to build relations and networks.
- Creative mindset and experience in planning and executing events.
- Facilitation and/or training skills.
