About Femern Link Contractors



The Fehmarnbelt Connection is one of Europe's most comprehensive construction projects ever. It is run by an organisation of nearly 500 staff building the world’s longest immersed tunnel and the longest for both road and rail traffic. It will consist of a motorway and rail connection, including an 18 km-long tunnel allowing faster and safer travel between Scandinavia and continental Europe. It will take less than 3 hours to travel by train between Hamburg & Copenhagen (currently, 4½ hours).

Appointed by the owner, Femern A/S, Femern Link Contractors (FLC) is the Joint Venture in charge of the Design and construction of the immersed tunnel, including the tunnel portals and ramps. A series of international civil works companies with individual experience in major infrastructure projects constitute the Joint Venture. FLC’s joint venture partners are committed to jointly cooperating to deliver a state-of-the-art immersed tunnel, portals & ramps that are timely and safely executed sustainably and ethically.


The Job



We seek a dedicated and experienced Works Manager to join our team. As a Works Manager Parallel Works, you will coordinate contractors, satisfy clients, and navigate our projects' regulatory landscape, particularly in Germany. Suppose you are a proactive, organised, and results-driven individual with a background in civil engineering or a related field. Parallel works are charged with coordinating the construction activities inside the tunnel. The work is shared between several Contractors, who all have to complete the tunnel's interior simultaneously / in parallel. Your responsibilities will include analysing and coordinating workstreams internally and with other General Contractors. You'll be instrumental in making tactical and operational decisions while reporting on progress and challenges.

So, in this role, your primary responsibilities will be:
  • Coordinate and manage multiple contractors working on parallel projects.
  • Collaborate closely with all stakeholders to ensure project milestones are met.
  • Oversee project budgets, timelines, and resources to ensure successful completion.
  • Liaise with German authorities, regulatory bodies, and government agencies to effectively navigate permitting and compliance requirements.
  • Foster strong relationships with clients, addressing their needs and ensuring their satisfaction throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Lead and mentor project teams, fostering a culture of excellence and teamwork.
  • Identify and mitigate project risks and issues promptly.
  • Anticipate future potential conflicts and planning issues and solve them before a severe problem arises.
  • Take ownership of interface management, collaborating closely with design and construction teams to ensure project objectives are met.
  • Facilitate workshops to address significant focus areas internally and about the interfaces with other construction companies.

Your Skills & Experience



We anticipate you have extensive experience in civil, finishing, and technical trades. You have probably been working on large-scale infrastructure projects, perhaps tunnel projects. You could have had a position as Works Manager before or worked within senior project management or a senior construction management position. Your educational background could be as an engineer or craftsman. Whatever, being the ideal candidate, we presume that you possess the following qualifications:
  • Have over ten years of experience in large-scale building and construction projects.
  • Fluent in spoken and written German and English.
  • Proven experience in project management and coordination of contractors.
  • Extensive experience in stakeholder management.
  • Able to work in multicultural and multigenerational teams.
  • Knowledge of German regulatory requirements and experience dealing with German authorities.
  • Ability to effectively communicate orally and in writing at all organisational levels.
  • Good judgment with the ability to make timely and sound decisions.
  • Creative, flexible, and innovative team player.
  • Broad understanding of complex project environments and very proactive and solution-orientated
  • Excellent problem-solving and decision-making abilities.
  • Highly organised and detail-oriented.
  • Ability to work independently and as a member of various teams and committees.
  • Willingness to travel as required.

You possess a mindset for collaboration, including good communication skills. You can maintain effective working relationships across assets and operations, including operators, vendors, contractors, subordinates, peers and superiors.
