As our responsibilities as a team are growing, we are looking for a Tobacco Specialist to join our passionate team and partake in our daily life and to ensure that succession in our team.
You will become a part of our Leaf, Blending and Development Team, which is located in Assens, Denmark, as well as part of our international team located in Holland and Dominican Republic. We all share the passion for tobacco in an outgoing, humorous and informal tone and support each other in the many diverse tasks, which a typical workday brings.
The retail business is undergoing rapid changes in tobacco and you must therefore thrive on change and complexity in everyday life and not be afraid of the challenges a product with great focus from the outside world entails. If you are motivated by complexity, development and challenges, we can offer you a job in an industry, where you will never be bored.
Put all your senses into play
You will primarily be working with purchasing of tobacco, manufacturing processes and product development. Essentially you will be part of the total process from buying the tobacco to launch of the finished product. Testing by looking, feeling and tasting the tobacco.
Other responsibilities will include:
• Purchasing the right quantity and quality of tobacco based on knowledge and experience
• Negotiating and entering purchasing agreements with preferred suppliers
• Being updated on legislation and competitor activities
• Advising sales and marketing departments regarding standards and quality of tobacco and taking part in joint innovation projects
• Being part of a team specifying all production parameters
• Being part of the product development team, exploring new flavor/taste directions for all products
• Work well with future purchase planning as well as keeping track of the history
It takes time to become a skilled and proficient Tobacco Specialist. Therefore, we will make sure to give you thorough training. You will visit all our factories, gain knowledge of the process from seed to sale and participate in training relevant to your responsibilities. Furthermore, you will have a handful of smart and bright colleagues all around the world, who will make sure to share their experience and knowledge with you.
Please allow 40-50 travel days a year, primarily in South America, Africa and the Far East.
Passion for taste and business acumen
There can many be different approaches to the job; however, the main driver is an academic background with a BSc or MCs – could be technical, humanistic or agronomy related. A passion for tobacco and striving to find new umami in tobacco is however a prerequisite.
Besides that to be successful in the role, you:
• Have a strong interest in working with sensory analysis and are using all your senses
• Have business acumen and solid IT knowledge
• Have a practical approach and it is an advantage if you have had your first job experience
• Have experience with interdisciplinary collaboration
• Are fluent in English both spoken and written
• Experience with project management is an advantage, but not a requirement
• Must be willing to travel during longer periods. Especially during your training period
