Are you recently graduated or someone working in the chemical or pharmaceutical industry with a focus on process modelling & simulation, design, dynamics, optimization, operations research, or a combination? The position
We are looking for someone who is motivated by and enjoys analysing data, developing advanced models and, deploying and applying these models for supporting decision making for short and long-term project portfolio generation.

This job gives you a great opportunity to play a part in shaping the future of pharmaceutical manufacturing across the organization, in close collaboration with similar teams in research and manufacturing in Novo Nordisk.

About the department
As part of Novo Nordisk’s Product Supply organization, Active Pharmaceutical Ingredients is responsible for manufacturing all API for Novo Nordisk’s products. You will be assigned to Manufacturing Development (MDev), a cross-functional area that works at the interface between R&D and full-scale manufacturing with a strategic focus on technology transfer, scale-up and process improvement-optimization. You will be employed in MDev Bioprocess Improvement-Optimization (MDev BIO), a recently established and growing group of 4 highly skilled colleagues plus 5 MSc students, working with advanced model-based approaches for designing and understanding Bioprocesses of the Future.
In MDev BIO we have a problem-solving mindset where we work in a dynamic environment to convert engineering challenges into opportunities. If you’re curious as to how we tackle these challenges and would like some examples, then don’t hesitate to continue reading.
We tackle these challenges through Multiscale Modelling where we have activities in Mechanistic Modelling, Process Control Modelling, Capacity Modelling and Supply Chain Optimization Modelling. Briefly, we aim to navigate a complex design and decision space for each of the scales on the multiscale. As our new colleague you will be joining us in the scale of Capacity Modelling where we focus on process-wide “what if” analyses for design, capacity expansions and project portfolio generation.

The position

So, what will you do?
- Develop, apply, and maintain flowsheet models for Process Digital Twins
- Use Sensitivity and Uncertainty analyses for Process wide analysis
- Identify protentional Process Improvements and Optimizations in collaboration with project stakeholders
- Develop models at varying levels of fidelity for representation of Processes and ultimately Facilities
- Join a network for driving Digital Twins as an approach for designing/retrofitting facilities

Qualifications
The candidate should have the following or developing qualifications:
- A PhD in core subject areas: chemical engineering or industrial engineering
- Domain knowledge in Process Systems Engineering
- PhD specialisations: modelling & simulation, process design, process dynamics, process optimization, operations research
- Experience with equation/object-oriented programming. An asset but not a requirement would be familiarization with one or more off the following tools: PROII, ASPEN Tech, GAMS, INOSIM, PYOMO, Julia or similar
- Experience with quantitative analyses applied to decision making under uncertainty
- Understanding of how to convey complex information to varying audiences
- Curious and an appetite for solving complex problems applying a systems approach
