About you
You have a strong and proven track record within development, validation and employment of histological analyses, including histochemical stains, immunohistochemistry, and in situ hybridization. You combine your broad knowledge of histological analysis methodologies with a strong motivation to make an impact across drug discovery projects. You are an effective communicator with strong influencing skills and a natural propensity to develop and nurture both internal and external relationships. As a scientist you are curious by nature with a deep passion to understand disease and drug target biology and you are tackling scientific challenges with a positive and constructive can-do-attitude.
About us
The Translational Science & Biomarker Team consists of 9 highly skilled and dedicated Technicians and Scientists within histology, bioanalysis and immunology. We are responsible for supporting the entire drug development chain with molecular histology analyses from early idea generation and target validation to clinical trials. Additionally, we drive biomarker identification and development and execution of biomarker assays to assess target engagement, pharmacodynamic response a/o disease progression across in vivo pharmacology studies and first-in-man clinical trials. Our team is characterized by an open informal working atmosphere and a collaborative and knowledge sharing mind-set where new ideas are highly valued.
As our new molecular histology expert, you will be the scientific and strategic driver responsible for further advancing our histology platform to create impact in projects in close collaboration with Scientist colleagues and three highly skilled and experienced Histology Technicians.
Your role will be to:
- Assume primary responsibility of defining histological analysis strategies and coordinating advanced histological analyses at LEO Pharma.
- Support target validation, in vivo end-point-analyses and clinical trials with high qualitative biomarker histological analyses.
- Act as histology expert advisor to Scientists and Technicians and closely collaborate with key stakeholders within Skin Research and Medical Sciences.
- Establish molecular histology analyses, including single and multiplex immunohistochemistry assays and in situ hybridization panels, in close collaboration with assay technicians.
- Develop image analysis algorithms using the Visiopharm imaging platform incorporating, as needed, artificial intelligence tools to optimize analysis workflows.
- Take on leadership roles in our discovery projects contributing with your broad drug discovery insight and strategic mindset and participate in scientific discussions across the research area.
- Identify and stay updated on trends and state-of-the-art technologies within histological analyses, introducing relevant novel opportunities to the team.
We expect as a minimum
- 8- 10 years of experience in drug discovery in a research or clinical setting and a PhD in biochemistry, biology, biomedicine or related field.
- Expert competencies and demonstrated proficiency in development, validation, and application of immunohistochemistry, in situ hybridization and immunofluorescence.
- Thorough understanding of how histological methods can be applied to support target identification and validation in early drug discovery.
- Extensive experience in automated digital image analysis preferably using Visiopharm software.
- Experience with both brightfield and fluorescence microscopy ideally including advanced multiplexing.
- Broad experience in immunology and diseases driven by inflammatory processes is highly preferred.
- Solid understanding of bioethical guidelines and legal requirements for research on human biospecimens. Experience with GCP is considered a strength.
- General knowledge of histopathology.
- A strong team player, who easily builds and maintains both internal and external relationships to create synergy and foster collaboration.
- Excellent communication skills and proficiency in written and spoken English.
