In order to strengthen the interfaces across CMC disciplines, we have created a new area, Chemical Development. Here you will be heading our de facto Center of Excellence analytical expert team – to ensure best in class analytical support across all phases of R&D from selection of drug candidates to products on the market (across the global LEO Pharma organisation).
We have the vision in place, and we believe we have achieved to find just the right balance between in-house ownership/manufacturing and use of external research and manufacturing partners. As part of the leadership team in Chemical Development you play a very important role in setting the direction for the future. Your team is one of three, and the leadership team is the Team Managers and the Director of Chemical Development.
Holistic resource management and positive people management
In this role, your job is not to be expert number one. You must bring a good scientific understanding, but your success is built on making your team shine and be their very best. As such, your focus is first and foremost in the span of resource and people management. The latter part calls for your ability to understand, motivate and develop a diverse team with PhDs as well as Technicians.
You will spend time on the following
- Resource management – prioritizing and planning
- Keeping your team motivated, happy and professionally on top of the development within advanced analytical technologies
- Stakeholder management – know what happens and make your customers understand your prioritisations
- Stay on top of new technology – help the experts as facilitator and planner
- Ensure a match between tasks handled and the overall budget
- Set direction for the area as part of the leadership team – including appropriate partner strategy and selection of the right partners
To ensure the below
- Analytical expert support to all phases of R&D – across the global organisation
- Expert input on selection of drug candidates from a developability point of view
- Identification of stable solid-state material for clinical studies
- Structural elucidation of active substances and impurities
Analytical chemistry knowledge and manager experience
To succeed, you must like to being part of a very informal and non-hierarchical environment. As you have a key role in building a new business area, you must also have the mindset of a change agent including the ability to clearly state “Why, How, Who and When” – and be able to frame the additional benefits of changing things. This you can naturally also do, when it comes to keeping your many stakeholders satisfied. It is also important, that you can thrive in an organisation without 360 degree and super
detailed set of SOPs and processes – you will contribute to creating the necessary. Additionally, your CV comprises:
- A degree at minimum MSc-level in analytical chemistry and pharmaceutical sciences
- A proven track record of analytical chemistry work from the pharmaceutical industry
- Good understanding of the overall drug discovery and development processes in different clinical phases
- Experience as manager of diverse teams with super science experts as well as technicians
Your new team
Your new workplace is LEO Pharma’s HQ (and biggest manufacturing site) in Ballerup Copenhagen. Here you will head a team of 5 Scientists at expert level and 3-4 highly skilled Technicians – and an on-going intake of Master and PhD students. As de facto Center of Excellence the team’s more specific focus is to provide scientific expertise within NMR, solid state properties and different separation techniques combined with mass spectrometry. The team is very well-functioning and the environment is characterised by collaboration, knowledge sharing and a common drive for creating tangible results.
