Oxfam IBIS is recruiting an Education program advisor and network coordinator for a maternity cover for our education team in Copenhagen.
The advisor will, together with colleagues in the education team, spearhead the strategic work on education and youth, thus contributing to making both Oxfam IBIS and the Oxfam confederation a stronger voice on education - globally, regionally and nationally. We are looking for a professional with a passion for education and youth, experience with programming and influencing work, strong networking skills and a good sense of humour.
Free quality education is a cornerstone in the fight against poverty and inequality, and it plays a key role in the development of social and economic justice, gender equality and sound democracies. It is a fundamental and enabling human right, paving the way for the realisation of other human rights. Oxfam IBIS works primarily with civil society partners to ensure the right to inclusive quality education for children, youth and adults, both in development and fragile contexts. For quality education to live up to its transformative potential, it must be relevant, conflict-sensitive and contextualised, enabling learners (within formal or non-formal education) to raise their voice, participate and organise.

Salary and working conditions due to present collective agreement with a salary scale between 38.430 DKK and 53.077 DKK including pension and pay supplement. Pay grading will be based on the level of experience.

The Oxfam IBIS Education team’s key responsibilities are to
- Support the country programs in which Oxfam IBIS is engaged with thematic and strategic expertise;
- Support the integration of education into other Oxfam programs also in countries where we currently are not directly involved;
- Contribute to Oxfam’s global and regional and campaigns strategically with aspects related to education programming and policy;
- Spearhead knowledge development, evidence-based learning and innovation regarding education within Oxfam including leading the Education Community of Practice and Influencing - ECPI;
- Promote education policy and influencing work with many different partners and actors at different levels including implementation and monitoring of the SDG 4, education financing, against commercialisation of education and gender transformative education.
The job - key responsibilities and tasks
- Providing ongoing strategic, thematic and capacity development support to educational programs and interventions in West Africa with special responsibility for a multi-country program on ‘Youth, Education & Gender’ (YEG).
- Spearheading learning and innovation both on different educational topics e.g. ICT and education, with specific responsibility for an education innovation project in Ghana (ITE).
- Work closely with relevant Country Offices and partners to support YEG and ITE implementation and cross-country learning
- Lead and coordinate a global Oxfam network on education (ECPI), including manage virtual meetings and online communication platforms.
The successful candidates will bring the following qualifications, experiences, skills and personal attributes
- Experience working with programme management, preferably international from a developing country.
- Experience providing strategic and thematic support to education and youth programmes
- Experience with coordinating and facilitating a global network, including technical competences in hosting virtual meetings and managing communication platforms
- Familiarity with the SDGs/2030 agenda, a human rights-based approach, transformative education approaches, gender equality, youth education, as well as ICT in education;
- Able to co-create and think in new ways, and to both work closely in a small team and at the same time thrive in the changing environment of a big global organisation, being able to bring people together around a joint agenda;
- You are results oriented and strategically thinking; and live for achieving inclusive quality education and global justice;
- Excellent communication skills and oral and written English. Knowledge of French is an advantage.
